Title: .... about Removal of Frame Stickers
Post by: DuciD03 on January 19, 2009, 08:52:22 PM
.... someone suggested in another thread the removal of frame stickers on a bike; I just thought theres a way to do this without losing that somewhat important piece of ID and history on the bike; and yes I know vin numbers are stamped on the frame & engine; but I'm just saying if you must then consider ....

Frame stickers - I'm not saying don't I'm saying IF removed; carefully remove them with a heat gun; BUT please put them back on the frame where there hidden (under the seat is a good spot, but avoid where the the rubber seat bumpers rest on the frame).  Clean new location with alcohol before reapplying.

Stickers are a part of the bike and I believe along with many transportation authorities, future bike buyers & collectors that there applied for good reason and in the future if anyone asks; tell em your sitting on them, also collectors like to have the original pieces to a bike.

Just my deux centavos and a couple of pointers for future consideration.

I would think a collector looking for a "show piece" bike ... i.e. one complete with all original stickers ... is unlikely to be impressed by one with the stickers removed and relocated.  Maybe I'm wrong.

a second thought... i'm not sure a collector is going to be as worried about your missing sticker, as much as he is worried about the missing 6-7 inches on the ass-end of it ;D

If you bought your bike to later sell it to a "collector", you've probably made a poor financial choice.

I do know if I had removed my frame stickers when I got the bike, they would not have let me register it in California when I moved here (so they said). Apparently they need some of the info off those.

Something to consider.

I moved to CA a few months ago without a single frame sticker ... or reflector ... or emissions canister.  They didn't say a word.  All they wanted were the frame number, the engine number and the California approved emissions sticker. (Which is under the seat, out of site, so people won't remove it! [thumbsup])

When I bought my S2R1K, the stickers had been removed and this definitely caused headache in Cali.  The DMV wanted me to take it to the CHP for VIN verification because the stickers were missing.

Fortunately, the desk jockey who finalized my paperwork  overlooked that particular checked box, and I got my plates anyhow!
