Today I feel really good about becoming US citizen. Title: Re: I think this sums it up.... Post by: Blake on January 20, 2009, 09:58:11 PM Funny, I've always felt good about being a U.S. citizen. Didn't need a president to make me feel good about the best country in the world. Not looking to start any bitterness here, but truly "hope" that this guy is as good as he makes himself out to be. I'm not expecting miracles, but since the deck is fully stacked in his corner (ie. both the House/Senate) he better be able to deliver on his "change America" mantra.
We'll see. I do wish him the best and would always do so for the leader of our country, no matter what party he belongs to. None of this "he's not my president" bull****. Anyways, I digress. Sorry to rant. [beer] Later Title: Re: I think this sums it up.... Post by: rinkratrob on January 20, 2009, 10:30:40 PM agreed, i have always been proud to be an American. the USA is an idea, not people and states. i think former pres carter's speech writer put it best..." its time to stop crying, and time to start sweating". love that speech.

Not to rain on the parade, but... It's fine to wish our new president well. It's fine to talk about how excited you are. But when you start comparing the merits of the new guy over the old guy, it's politics. So let's steer clear of any Bush-bashing. It's clearly political, and that's not allowed. And if you think you're about to post something that's right up against the line of politics, odds are it's over the line from someone else. </mod hat> Title: Re: I think this sums it up.... Post by: desmoquattro on January 24, 2009, 09:37:41 AM I just want him to raise the Abalone Take limit. ;D Man, that brings back memories...used to be 4 when I was a kid. Now I think it's 3 right? All the abalone people see are tiny compared to those days. And they're apparently deeper and harder to get. Title: Re: I think this sums it up.... Post by: Desmostro on January 24, 2009, 11:45:18 AM That's what she said.
And they're apparently deeper and harder to get. sorry, Is being annoying still allowed? Title: Re: I think this sums it up.... Post by: MendoDave on January 24, 2009, 01:11:51 PM Not that hard to get, but at 3 per day it's almost not worth getting in the water.
Title: Re: I think this sums it up.... Post by: ROBsS4R on January 24, 2009, 04:02:41 PM I just want him to raise the Abalone Take limit. ;D Best Homer Simpson voice Ehh 3 is hard enough for me to get right now =( What we do is we stay the weekend. We have a huge abalone feast the first day. At least 6 to 9 Abs depending on the dive group that day and then we take another limit home the following day for the family [thumbsup] Personally I like the Sea Urchin but as you probably know Abalone and Urchin don't like each other so they normally are not near each other to harvest. Title: Re: I think this sums it up.... Post by: MendoDave on January 24, 2009, 04:17:09 PM Well if you come up to the Mendo coast to get some Abs, Let me Know.

I have to get into this. I love diving. butt: Abalone web site: (http://abalonediving.com/?q=node/9) "*Note: If you are caught poaching for abalone there are hefty penalty fines and jail time. Plus you may get tagged by a spear gun from some crazed diver. Fellow divers hate poachers, its a personal thing..." nice. [thumbsup] Sure thing. I will let you know next time we head out that way [drink] ok I'm getting informed. April... punch card... wet suit√ mask, snorkel, fins√ Anywhere around SF worth going? The last time I went free diving was in the Bahamas. 100' down was still 75F ! ha!
I can't even imagine how cold it is here at 20'. Arse cold I'm sure. Brief dips at deep depth would be ok. I don't have a dry suit or anything. I'm sure it used to be done nekid. You can't really dive in a dry suit. Its to Buoyant but a 7.5mm Wetsuit will keep you pretty warm. Well back in the day you use to Rock Pick them... Well that was way before my time. The more picked over the site the deeper you need to dive but in general figure to dive between 10 and 20 feet. That's the east part though. The visibility is normally really bad so what you do is stick your hand in front of you and dive down as hard as you can as you slam on the brakes as soon as you see the bottom... but then you think its the bottom but its another 6 feet of seaweed and crap growing on the rocks. then you stick you head into holes hoping to find a Ab =) Title: Re: I think this sums it up....
