Title: Help for the gimp?
Post by: Jammen on January 20, 2009, 04:45:09 PM
Well, I finally had the "big motorcycle crash" that everyone's been warning me about since I first hopped on a bike.   :-[

Though ironically and probably not surprisingly, it was on the dirtbike and not on the street.   [laugh]

Long story short, DTM, a coworker, and I were up in Mendencino this weekend when I binned it big.  Resulting in a bit of unplanned pelvis restructuring.   [bang]
Helivac'd down to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, lots of pain killers, a bit of PT, a good amount of TLC later and they're ready to send me home.  Which is where I might need a bit of help.

First, would any of our stronger San Franciscan members have time tomorrow night to attempt to carry me and a wheel chair up a total of 16 steps? Refreshments and merriment will be provided after my safe delivery of course!

Second, would anyone happen to have on hand a spare pair of crutches, one of the shower seat things that bridge from the outside to the inside of the shower, or just some spare Flintstones Chewable Morphine?

i say dan the man should be responsible for carrying you up the stairs, and for taking care of you for the entire recovery period.

Yeah, this is the 2nd time that DTM has torpedoed another DMFer.  (That's probably not true, but it's more fun if we pretend it is.)  Before I decide whether to render aid I want the full story.  Dish it, sister...   :-*

Jammen getting a lift

Given the way it was introduced did anyone else think that this flick was going to show DtM and Jammen getting "up close and personal?"   [laugh]

The Groupie (aka Frances) says she can give a hand lifting you in your wheelchair and that she is much stronger than she looks!  ;)

Thanks man! Your well wishes are more then enough!

Yeah, this is the 2nd time that DTM has torpedoed another DMFer.

Surprisingly enough, DTM really had nothing to do with the crash, shocking, I know.
Really was a mild wash out that somehow managed to go really wrong.

Given the way it was introduced did anyone else think that this flick was going to show DtM and Jammen getting "up close and personal?"   [laugh]

You don't even want to know some of the things he said to "make sure I was still awake" while we waited for the Helivac...

The Groupie (aka Frances) says she can give a hand lifting you in your wheelchair and that she is much stronger than she looks!  ;)

I'm sure she more then strong enough! I'd just be worried about her distracting DTM!   [laugh]

Well, I'm not sorry my concert made me miss out on the Mendocino excursion. :P

Here's Jamie from yesterday, just about ready to pop wheelies in between charming all the nurses. [cheeky]

If you're serious about the crutches, I still have mine from my motorcycle accident a couple years ago that I would love to get rid of pass on to someone who will really appreciate them...  [cheeky]

Just let me know, and I'll bring 'em up to SF.

I can help with the lift. I fly in tomorrow morning.

Duqette, if you're in the same place as last time I saw you, I can stop in and get the crutches-you would be on my way.

I feel like the gimp. Wrist and leg still too weak to help, a handful of Vicodin, and no crutches. But if you can wait till Feb 21, you can have the ones I won't need post ACL surgery.  ;)

Glad to hear your spirits are up. Rest up and enjoy all the lame reality shows.

Man! Everybody is busy healing!!! Ray, heal up quickly so you can go on the next Oyster Ride! Greyduc (Jay) also broke his ankle last Friday trying to avoid some lame pedestrian who wasn't paying attention, slid on the slick pavement markings and dropped the bike!  Just took him grocery shopping which was pretty funny with him pointing out all the things he wanted to buy with his crutches :)

Yes, I'm looking forward to the next oyster ride! Yikes about Jay! Bad ju ju in the air! Maybe it's a good thing I will be laid out for a bit. Woo hoo Oprah again!!!

Sorry to hear that.  I myself am still recovering from getting my hip redone.  Long needed from a 2001 crash.  I don't have the exact shower thing you speak of but I may have something that'll work depending on your tub.  It looks like this:

I never used it as a toilet.. cause...ewww.  But it worked great as a shower chair.  Let me know if you think it'll work and we can arrange delivery.

If that thing had wheels, it would make a cool wheelchair.  :)

Noooo .... I was in first! I get to (finally) give away my crutches!  [roll]

Someguy, I'm still in the same place.  :)  That'd be great if you want to swing by, otherwise I'll be cagin' it up to SF tonight anyway, and with an address I could drop them off myself...

(He's going to end up with two sets of crutches, poor guy  [laugh] That'll teach him.... )

I'm not gonna even ask where you came up with that term.   [cheeky]

...and on a side note, how is our boy?  Does he have all the help he needs or does someone else need to make a trip out there?  I like him n all, but that gown looks loose and I don't want to come in contact with any of Jammen's junkpile.    :-X

errr. missed this one. Let me know if you need any more help man. Where are you? Didn't see it posted. I'm in the city.

There's a movie coming out called "real men were gowns." Posters everywhere down town. I thought it looked annoying.
But whatever. You looked lively in that 1/2 mil cotton. Don't let anyone say otherwise.
Chanel?  [cheeky]

Get well soon mang!

Hope you recover well!
Looks like REACH in the video.  [thumbsup]
If you need future movement you should be able to call the FD's non-emergency number (or the nearest station) and set up a time to get them to carry you up and down the stairs. Just give some notice.

And I'm home!!

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and support!

So many random stories from the hospital, from the crackhead, to the bionic old man, to getting "hit on" by the nurses, this was a totally DMF approved excursion!  :D

Now, back to catching up on sleep after my "restful" hospital stay.

Ditto,  I was convinced during my last stay that the only one asleep in the whole place was my snoring old guy roommate.

If you want to make your worst day in a hospital seem like a vacation, come over to the VA hospital one day. Prison camps are more fun.

Sounds like a plan to me. Let's bring him to one and slash his wheelchair tires.
