Title: Monster 900 year97 Post by: speedpostz on January 23, 2009, 09:28:51 AM Hi guys, i have a gt1000 wired rims and i wanna fit onto my bike.
any one done this before? I brought it to my mechanic but he said it cant be fitted as there is some clearance for the brake caliper. i was told be him that the wheels can be fitted nicely but the brake caliper cannot be fitted in as it is hitting the wire spokes of the rim. the suspension and the brake caliper are stock from 97 m900. help would be greatly appreciated, picture would be great too. thanks everyone Title: Re: Monster 900 year97 Post by: JEFF_H on January 23, 2009, 10:30:47 AM im pretty sure the sportclassics use the smaller 2-piston calipers.
you would prob have to switch to those... paging duck-stew. stew to the mods section please Title: Re: Monster 900 year97 Post by: speedpostz on January 23, 2009, 10:53:15 PM the main thing is there is not enough clearance for the caliper to befitted in as it is blocked by the wired spoke. thinking of grinding the back of the brake caliper but my mechanic says its not advisable as there is a risk that the caliper cannot be used.

What you need to have done (think $$$ here) is to have rotor spacers machined (5mm ought to do it but PLEASE check first!) so the rotors sit out further from the spokes. Then have custom caliper spacers machined to the same offset dimension as your rotor spacers. After that, it's a matter of bearing spacers front and rear and you'll have no provision for the mechanical speedometer drive in the left side of the front wheel so you'll need to work around that issue also. Best of luck!
