Title: Any Painters here... Wheel refinish q's Post by: lawbreaker on January 26, 2009, 05:40:37 AM My Marchesini magnesium wheels were painted by the previous owner and I would like to have them stripped and brought back to the original color (Gold)..
Will stripping the paint ruin the original finish and/or texture? Will they need to be repainted? Thanx Mucho [bow_down] Title: Re: Any Painters here... Zinc chromate would be my choice for piming magnesium.

Most of them came powdercoated. (http://www.hardracing.com/images/ff.jpg) If that's the case then the original finish most likely will not be salvageable. Some of the cast mag wheels came with a zinc dichromate finish. (http://www.ema-usa.com/wheels/images/mar_ssrr_cm.jpg) If this is the case pick an inconspicuous area and start with some laqeur thinner and work your way stronger from there. ZD plating is fairly solvent resistant. Even if there are no sanding scratches it most likely will look cloudy anyway but you never know. Good luck! Title: Re: Any Painters here... Can they be bead blasted ( or is it even worth the trouble)..

Chemical strip and powdercoat might be the best bet. Title: Re: Any Painters here... Wheel refinish q's Post by: ProTeal55 on January 26, 2009, 11:18:44 AM I would def. go the powdercoat route...

Nate does a lot of painting, PM him.
