...riding to the mountain for some snowboarding isn't really such a great idea. Actually, really quite a miserable idea.

That scooter could do it. [bow_down]
Just mount the snowboard to the front tire. Best of both worlds.

As the ride progressed my humor and patience for the camera pretty much plummeted, unfortunately. Until today we've been in a warm spell so snow on the road wasn't tooo much a concern. There were some unmelted patches of ice, but easy enough to dodge those.
Before I committed to meeting friends at the hill I tested the rig out, at about 40. I declared it Good To Go... could hardly feel the board. You know though, the velocity component of the drag calculation has that pesky raised up little two next to it... Right, lesson learned. Don't make the beast with two backs with the exponent. It will kick your ass. I was only about 1/2 way up the on ramp when I realized the error of my ways, but there were friends on the road already... what's a guy gonna do, turn around? By 60 it was already like holding a perpetual crunch. 80 was almost unmanageable. I kept finding myself speeding up to get there quicker, and then slowing down because going fast hurt too much. I seriously considered tailgating a semi at lethal proximity just for the sake of the draft. Perhaps the worst part was not being able to split traffic (it was a mantra running through my mind... "do not go between the cars. you don't fit. do not go between the cars..."). So frustrating on the way home to be stuck in traffic...
Two observations......................
1. Should have left the bikini fairing on ;D
2. Next time take the scoot & RENT when you arrive...............hell, you'll get up there so much faster by being able to split lanes you been done with the rental & have time to wipe that beast down [laugh]
Glad you made it without flying away & I hope you had your friends take your board home ;)
Man if this ended worst, id vote you for a darwin.
have you ever got of your handlebars and stuck your arms out like your ready to hug someone? The draft there is nearly enough to throw you off your bike if you arent braced for it.
No idea why you decided to do it, but damn hell funny since you lived to tell about it!

I'd be lying if I said it didn't make the ride a bit more challenging, that was mostly because of the effort required to keep my arms loose on the bars though. Ab hell... If I had found trouble controlling the bike I would have turned around and bailed on the day. Reflectors so that cars could see the wide load might have been a good idea though.
i think you should have let the bottom loose so it would have swung up like a wing!
lets shred more ice.... [thumbsup]
thats got my Darwin vote ;D
How did...? Why would you...? What were...? When did...? Where...? Oh never mind, +100000000 for a Darwin award.
Glad you are OK though.
I'm just excited to see steve posting again [thumbsup]
so ou were meeting friends there... they were in a car.. couldn't they have carried you gear?

glad you made it safe & sound [thumbsup] .... reminds me of an overweight "courier" I saw on a late model 80's cruser yamaha 1ooo; he had 4 parcels 2 largish; as he was loading i was asking how are you going to carry all that ? Quote "oh i do this all the time"; Couldn't fit the largest box (looks like theres a tire in it) on the luggage rack; so he puts it in front of himself on the tank .... takes off ... I hear the bike rounding the block then see him rounding the corner making a left at a major intersection; the box on the tank; catches an updraft and hits him in the face and sticks there ... ya! like in a movie ... he manages to bat it down and lucky not "beast with 2 backs"-ing crash! [moto]

If we had been traveling from the same location, I probably would have just hopped in the car with them... ;)
I'm surprised the cops didn't nail you. You know they have a breathalyzer test for alcohol and drugs and an I Q test for something like what you were doing. Dolph ;D
where did i see that photo of a 748 with a surfboard mounted on the side? anyone remember seeing that?
This should be in one of those threads with the Indian fellows that carry awkward loads. [cheeky]
Did you manage to scrape the edges of the board while cornering? ;D
Send the board home with your friends and have them mail it to you.
That's if you are still there.
Just one question: WHY!!!!!!!!!!
;D
