I guess the motorcycling world is taking the hint from RA that they don't care if bikes run their circuit or not. It's sad really. Title: Re: 2009 Racing Schedule -- MotoGP, WSBK, AMA Post by: zooom on January 28, 2009, 06:45:12 AM seems May 17th, July 26th, Sept 6th, and Oct 4th & 25th will be big TV racing viewing weekends with choices to make as to which to watch and whatnot...
I make 1 prediction....WSBK garners a larger viewing audience and following continuously throughout the season over MotoGP. I hope I am wrong...but it is just a gut feeling based on how things seem to be going... Title: Re: 2009 Racing Schedule -- MotoGP, WSBK, AMA Post by: gm2 on January 28, 2009, 07:00:33 AM you must be referring to worldwide numbers then?

WSBK numbers are quite high, claiming a growing audience from 2 billion in both '05 and '06 worth 600 million to media companies. Excerpt from the website: http://www.bikercafe.co.uk/sport/world-superbikes/ducati-corse-world-superbike-team-extends-sponsorship-with-xerox.html (http://www.bikercafe.co.uk/sport/world-superbikes/ducati-corse-world-superbike-team-extends-sponsorship-with-xerox.html) 'Over the past two years the Ducati Xerox Team has claimed more race victories than any other team in the World Superbike Championship, with James Toseland (UK) and Regis Laconi (France) in 2005 and Troy Bayliss (Australia) and Lorenzo Lanzi (Italy) in 2006. In both 2005 and 2006 the World Superbike Championship involved 12 rounds and 24 races across three continents with approximately 1,000,000 race spectators, a TV audience of more than 2 billion worldwide viewers (cumulative) and live broadcast on 94 networks covering 173 countries.' MotoGP is still king however, according to a CBS Sports demographic study in 2007, it pulls more than double the viewership that WSBK does with 69% being male, 54% of those males are between 25-44yrs old, well educated, and median incomes. http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2007/May/070503a.htm (http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2007/May/070503a.htm) 'Currently MotoGP TV broadcasts reach 207 countries, with 184 of those in live or same day delayed format. An average of 142 million spectators see the live/SDD broadcasts, with a total average audience per GP of 311 million viewers. In 2006, an estimated 5.2 billion people around the world tuned into MotoGP races. ' |
