Im converting a dead 750ss to a living 900ss.
The engine is in, and I have a 5.5 rear on the swingarm now. The seller of the wheel (from this forum) told me I could reuse the 4.5 wheel sprocket carrier. Now Im not sure if I can. Searching here produced nothing definitive.
Can I use this, or is the 5.5 wheel's sprocket carrier different?
I am also missing the conical wheel spacer for the left side so if anyone has a spare, I'd love to get my hands on it ;D
what year?
Hmm.. Good question.
Pretty sure it's a 99 or 2000. It's fuel injected (even when it was a 750)
I searched on TOB and it seems that the carriers are different but the spacers are the same.
So I guess I need to get me a 5.5 wheel sprocket carrier and spacer.
Anyone have one?
I've seen different conical spacers among Monsters.
Not sure which ones take what kind, axle diameter is a factor as well.
Found me a cheap carrier! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250355428156&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&viewitem=)
;D

Should I just make my own with washers?
This thing's just a track beater.

I suppose you could, but multiple washers there will be a total PITA when installing the wheel.
IIRC, the sprocket carriers are the same between the 4.5 and 5.5 wheels for the 17mm rear axle (which your SS has). The 25mm axle has a different sprocket offset so swapping bearings to make it work....won't work.
The conical spacer? Get a new one if you can't find a used one...seriously! 100mph all leaned over is NO place for the carrier to contact the swingarm.

Hmm. I just got a 5.5 carrier of ebay for $13 shipped. We'll see if they really are different or not. It's a cheap date to find out.

Well when you get all logical and put it that way. . .
it makes me want to be less ghetto.
>:(
;D
I would have at least tacked all the washers together 8)
The spacer is cone shaped...
you gonna use different sized washers?

I never said that....
seriously.
my bad. I meant the seller of the 5.5 wheel I bought and not the seller of the bike.

What seems to be the problem with the old carrier?
Are the sprokets not aligning? If so, it could be your installation of the front sprocket.
The front sprocket has a neck on it. I'm pretty sure that the neck should point towards the bike for a 5.5" and away for a 4.5".
Though I'm not positve about that.
I noticed that the front could go either way.
I haven't even put a chain on it yet so. . .
