Title: MS excel question
Post by: Monsterlover on January 28, 2009, 01:45:13 PM
[help]

Google has failed.  The Microsoft Kitty has also failed.

I have a list of current projects in progress and I want to reorder the rows and not loose any info.

Col 1 is the date, col 2 is the customer, col 3 is project info, etc

Id like to be able to sort this first by date, then by customer and not loose the associated project information.

I know there's a way, but I haven't found it on my own.

Highlight the three columns

Select Data from the menu bar then Sort.

A window will pop up. Select which column you want to sort by.

Shouldn't be much more to it, unless I'm missing somethig.

This is correct - also be sure that each column has a 'header' title in Row 1.  That makes it easier to know what you're sorting by.

Or you can select the header row, and go up to data, filter, autofilter.  It will give you drop down icons for each column with different display options.

It works differently than sort though.  Sort, is more for 1 time re-ordering.  Autofilter is good to narrow down data repeatedly in different ways, but you can do ascending and descending also,  similar to sort.
