Title: So, would I be a tosser for wanting a pair of tailgunners on my 696?
Post by: goombah on January 29, 2009, 02:06:49 AM
Yeah... I've got the Icon Domain 2 Warthog helmet which has a rotary cannon type motif on it:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/ProductImages/300/2009_Icon_Domain_2_Warthog_Helmet_Rubatone_Green.jpg (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/ProductImages/300/2009_Icon_Domain_2_Warthog_Helmet_Rubatone_Green.jpg)

So I was thinking about getting these for my black 696 after the 1000km break in period:

...Question is... would i be a complete and utter wanker?

perhaps not a wanker though possibly mistaken for a gun slinging red neck

They certainly look better than what they come with.  Question is - do they sound better?

Oh they are so cute. I've not seen them before.  [thumbsup]  First clip sounded okay but second one sounded crap on my puter.

well, they're supposed to sound louder and "gruntier"... guess that can't really be a bad thing, can it?

so what's the verdict?  yay or nay?  wonder if i'd have to change anything else like ecu or airfilters or anything...

guess i have a couple of months to decide.

If they fired bullets, maybe.

IMO Quat-D Box is where it's at for the 696

There is an uber 696 exhaust thread here (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=12166.0)

I know  one thing  with the 696, the stock exhaust sounds crap.

+1 on wanker

Ok, it's hilarious and good for a laugh, but it's just sooo over the top....   (IMO)

Aren't dukes, and their riders/owners, supposed to be over the top?  This is my first ducati so this is why I'm asking, I mean I know it may come off a little tacky, but it's something different that you just don't see all that often...(probably with good reason  [cheeky])... Ah maybe I'll come to my senses when it comes time to change cans... or maybe not, either way, there'll be pics  ;D

Post by: stopintime on January 29, 2009, 01:47:32 PM
Well, I guess it's up to each individual to determine what's over the top and what's not. I have a bike and mods that are just the thing for me, but I realize that some of it will be waaay out there for other riders, especially riders of other brands.

So, whatever makes you proud is what you should get. If you do get those pipes I will be first (or close) in line to congratulate - that's because I like the excitement and individual satisfaction that comes with making the bikes our own.

Please don't let me discourage you [thumbsup]

The normal response is 'if you have to ask ...'

But that rarely applies to this place as everybody does something different and a good variety of responses helps to put things into perspective ... that perspective often being the rest of the bike.

I remember thinking 'cool' when I first saw those but then immediately thought 'yeah, it would suit a harley, outlaw type'. Not really the thing for my innocent little bike. But if you have the dark/villain/urban warrior thing going with the whole ensemble ... then maybe it will be what you are looking for. You just want to make sure it is something you can live with day-to-day and won't be too embarrassed by the reactions of onlookers.

As for the wanker think ... when I got my bike I chose the gloss black because I thought the stripe was a bit 'euro wanky' and it was the only solid colour ... opinions and tastes change with time ... but what do I know I have tweety birds stuffed in my exhausts ffs.

You have to change them cos they sound crap so go with something originial I reckon.

Ms "I'm not blinging my bike"

Yeah, why not indulge a bit eh?

My concern now is something that someone brought up earlier, that the airflow may not be enough to spin both cans... That and if I have to remap the ECU.

Sell your monster and buy a Harley, I think it would go better with the flames and skulls paint scheme on the tank

Well a lot of people seem to just whack on the obligatory termis, which is fair enough, but I want something different.  And no, I don't have spinners on my car, I'm not some kid who is easily impressed by shiny objects.  But thanks for taking my post seriously and giving a new ducati rider and forum member a chance to get some opinions from an established community.

Sell my duke and buy a harley eh?... Yeah that's some great advice... Why didn't I think of that when I was buying the monster, gosh I'm a silly twat aren't I?

I reckon there's are fair amount of us on here without the termis, but with arrows instead. I guess that rules the arrows out...

So what about a Quat D ex box, some Zards, Mivvs or some boom tubes from Motocreations in the States (if you really want to piss off your neighbours that is  ;D). Search the accessories and mods section of the DMF for more info...

If old school if your flavour, there were some DP conti replicas around not so long ago that are IMHO one of the best sounding pipes for a ducati - anyone who's heard Rich's (ace70 on the DMF) bike knows what I am talking about.

There're not my cup of tea but each to their own I guess.

I know of a couple of guys who would love these pipes. (must email them) Then I could see for myself

The only question I have is Are they legal in this country?
I know some of you might say legal smeegal but hey they last thing I want is the plod sniffing around.

Its the only reason I decided on a wet clutch bike ... as I thought a noisy, spinny thing attached to the side of the bike would be illegal  [cheeky]

Don't know whether they would be legal or not but, other than noise, what would make them illegal (and I don't mean the locked and loaded ones ... I can understand the coppers having a bit of a problem with those [roll])

I'll be truthful...and apparently we turn a nice phrase....

these tell the world that you are 'unable to gain and maintain an erection' in medical speak. bad. all bad.

you are too good for these!  ;)

and you're going to look good on that 696, you don't need these pipes! (there was a red 669 in Margaret River, with Termi's...sounded great!!!)
