Title: muffler sliders
Post by: pespina on January 30, 2009, 01:50:03 AM
Has anyone installed the muffler sliders from Advanced Performance Accessories (https://ssl.perfora.net/www.advancedperformanceaccessories.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=154982ccf368847/shopdata/0020_Street+=26amp=3Bslash=3B+Road+Race/0050_Muffler+Slider+=26amp=3B+Boot+Slider+Soles+/product_details.shopscript?article=0080_Muffler%2BSlider%2BFull%2B%3D28MS2R%3D29) on a Monster with lowered oval silencers?

Cheers, Pedro

They look like batting donuts.

Why is it that there is always a deaf man who wants to crap on the concert?

Let me be clear... I am looking for comments from people who have used them, so they may provide me tips on installation. Opinions on art appreciation - please keep to yourself.

I don't see those staying on during a slide along pavement? No first hand experience...

being that this is the 1st time I have ever seen them and most people whom have these would probably be track rats with track only machines and racers...you would probably be best asking on the WERA forums I would think....

If you don't have carbon cans I think the $4 would be well spent on the heat strips. The sliders seem like they would install easily. Never tried 'em myself.

First time I saw them were on supermotos.  2001cromo has one on his track SV.  It's cheap protection, what the heck!! He  hasn't crash tested it yet... though the ends are starting to melt slightly from the heat.

I'm not sure which cans you have, but the Arrows and Mivvs I've used are pretty close to the swingarm.  Probably too close to have one of those sliders on the entrance side.  I don't think it would be a problem on the exit side, though.

I want to thank those members that have provided me with help so far.

I have a 2003 M620S i.e. with Termignoni lowered carbon oval silencers (96007700B (http://www.ducati.com/shop/product.jsp?_DARGS=/shop/search/droplets/ddd_boxproduct.jsp_A&_DAV=/shop/search/advsearch.jsp&catid=cat960127&prodid=prod790117&srch=true)).

I have been riding for two years and during the first year, I low-sided twice scraping the stainless steel silencer input flange and the stainless steel clamping belt holding the flange and the carbon canister together (i.e., at the silencer end closest to the foot peg). I also shredded the exhaust heat guard (46010383A (http://www.ducati.com/shop/product.jsp?_DARGS=/shop/search/droplets/ddd_boxproduct.jsp.2_A&_DAV=/shop/search/advsearch.jsp&catid=cat960140&prodid=prod790155&srch=true)).

This year I intend to take the bike to the track and I anticipate low-siding once again. I would like to find a way to eliminating the need to replace a $975 silencer every time I learn the "hard-way".

The R&G Oval Exhaust Protector (http://www.rg-racing.com/browseType/Exhaust_Protectors/EP0004BK.aspx) appears to be the best solution, as it would cover the entire silencer input flange. The R&G Tri Oval Exhaust Protector (http://www.rg-racing.com/browseType/Exhaust_Protectors/EP0007BK.aspx) seems more elegant and it probably would allow for the heat shields to stay in place, but I think that it would not prevent some of the flange damage shown in the photograph above.

It would appreciate hearing from someone who owns a Monster with lowered oval silencers and who has installed either of these protectors as I am concerned with the clearance between the silencer and the foot peg holder plate (82410241AB).

Thanks, Pedro
