So what exactly does this mean?  They didn't get bought by Tata, I'm confused.

I'm sure it will help that people who have never seen a Ducati will be your customer service link in your time of need

Tata Consultancy is simply a technology development and support firm.

They provide IT services to plenty of big-name manufacturers.

This is nothing bad.  Probably is going to up Ducati's internal IT services quite a bit.

The last company that was doing it was Japanese, they were an arm of TPG.  This is how Ducati (and most firms of this size) do business.

sounds good to me.

Oh god!! Don't get me started....  >:( I have been dealing with them for the past 3 years (in IT) and finally, FINALLY no longer deal with them!!  [clap] I'm sure there are some very bright minds there but I have not seen them...

I've worked with TCS in the past. They failed to impress.

India = rubbish quality and standards ... my company just outsourced our internet to an Indian telecomm suppliers platinum package real 21st century quality  and the rate is now a mind bending 512kb  instead of the 2mb we used to have , so we cannot do any work now as file transfer rates on site are so slow it take days to download 1 small file. ...which is good ...I can catch up on my sleep.

We should rename this bash on India Support thread  [laugh]

Our company has had the same experience.   One of our big all-in-one machines has been freaking out and printing reams of broken code at random times.  Our local IT guy can't see the network log going to the printer cause the India people control it, and won't send it when the printer is acting up.

do you guys think Italian IT firms are any better?

seriously?

remember what ducati's Veglia odometers were like before they used the NipponDenso odos?

[puke]

it can't be any worse.. italian QA (God love 'em) isn't all that...

This is not an issue. Having been part of the team that wrote the IT strategy that Ducati had previously, as well as having provided advice on their service delivery  - believe me this is a good thing. Tata do this stuff well.

This strikes me as strictly supply chain management support via software tools Tata is providing.

And as much as we're enjoying bashing on India...

Well have you ever tried to get support / information / parts from an Italian company during the summer months?  [laugh]
