Title: SpeedyMoto top triple geometry issues...... (?)
Post by: stopintime on January 31, 2009, 02:47:12 AM
I'm converting to, or at least testing, clip ons - Swatt with rise.

Later, when I know if clip ons works for me, I might very well get the SpeedyMoto top triple for the bling look.

My concern is the thicker/higher dimension of their triple compared to the stock part. Will the larger dimension just add downwards with no changes to the geometry OR will I have to slide the forks up a bit? My forks are as low in the triples as they can go, to match up the rear which has new springs with riders sag of 36mm.

The geometry of your front end will not change as the speedymoto triple clamps and the stock triple clamps for the monster are not adjustable.
In other words they are on a fixed line.
You will have no issues.

On a fixed line, yes, but if the added height of the top triple make the whole triple assembly higher - it will extend up above where the top of the stock top triple is today. If so, I will have to lower the whole assembly on the forks - thus changing the geometry.

True...

but enough to notice?

I think I read that the SpeedyMoto triple is 15mm thicker/higher than stock - that would be very noticeable? My stock triple is flush with the forks - I have no space on the forks to allow the top triple to be any higher.

This is the text from MonsterParts/SpeedyMoto:

* Offers up to 15mm of added height over the stock top triple, providing superior ergonomics and control when using clip-ons.
* Strengthens the front end, by spreading the top clamping points of the forks further away from the lower clamps, reducing fork flex

From what I've noticed, if your forks sit flush in the stock triple, you will have to slide the fork legs to sit flush in the SM triple.

With the clip-ons + the forks adjusted for the triple, if you are use to the way the bike feels, it will feel different.  Just have the suspension readjusted if it's an issue.

I got my answer from Christian at SpeedyMoto.

The triple assembly will have to lowered on the forks by about 5mm.
I can live with that, or I'll lower the rear accordingly. After the new rear spring I'm a bit higher anyway, so to drop 5mm back there won't be a problem for me, I think.

Thanks [thumbsup]
