Title: My Bike, The story so far Post by: Howley on February 01, 2009, 03:50:02 AM I just moved this over from the old forum. The bike has changed a bit more since then but here it is...
This is the bike when I bought it. Lots of carbon, ok condition. '94 model. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/2003_0126Ducati9000002.jpg) It didn't take me long to open up the clutch and change the mirrors. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/01-04-06_0739.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/31-01-06_1911.jpg) I painted the lettering on the tires too. As you can see, the resin I put on the exhausts didn't like the heat. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/28-04-06_1735.jpg) I ordered clip ons from CA Cycleworks a bit later. I love them. I got some SS clutch springs and bolts, billet retainers and some cheap-o-levers too. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/06-06-06_1115.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/06-06-06_1125.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/06-06-06_1218.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/07-06-06_1433.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/07-06-06_1431.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/07-06-06_1432.jpg) As you can see, the choke was still a bit of a problem. This got moved eventually. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/07-06-06_1430.jpg) That brought the bike to this stage. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/Boom2-1.jpg) I decided to paint the panel in front of the idiot lights. A new clutch cover went on at some stage too. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/27-02-07_1700.jpg) Then, my bike got knocked over. A friend reversed into it. I was pissed, but at the same time stoked at the opportunity to do some work on it. I took it to the smash repair guy, he pulled off the parts he needed and I took it back home with the help of fellow dml'er Joe (pepsduc). Then I started pulling it apart. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/13-04-07_2018.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/14-04-07_1114.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P4140025.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P4140029.jpg) I took the frame, wheels and rearsets to be powdercoated, after cutting the side panel brackets from the frame. While that was being done I cleaned up the engine, painted some bits, and cleaned the swingarm and shock. I also re-did the white lettering on the tires, but left out the 'radial' and 'road' (for obvious reasons ) While the engine was out I did the valves too, makes it really easy. Here's the bits in my car at the powdercoaters. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/20-04-07_1248.jpg) Then I started putting it back together. I have a bit of a thing against heaps of carbon, so I left off the belt covers, beer tray, side covers and hugger. The carbon clutch cover went a while back. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/20-04-07_2111.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P4220038.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P4220039.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P4220042.jpg) I changed the crankcase breather arrangement. Removed the box, tube from the airbox and replaced the breather hose. I used a cheap pod filter on a custom bracket, putting it through where the side panel used to cover. Re-routed all the wiring to be invisible too. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P4220041.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P4220044.jpg) Then back on Joe's ute to get finished up at the smash repair place. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/26-04-07_1634.jpg) All back together and back at my place. I polished up the stock reserviour caps (file and sandpaper) and put on some CRG levers from monsterparts. The guys at the smash repair place recoated and polished up the exhausts. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5030093.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5030077.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5030074.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5030073.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5030076.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5030092.jpg) DML Ride up in the hills. Finally fitting in with all the shiny bikes! (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5060022.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5060023.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5060018.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5060014.jpg) New belt covers finally showed up from germany. They look sweet. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5280078.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5280079.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P5280080.jpg) Seat cowl decals from cutgrafix. It was really hard to install them but they came up great. I also got some chrome indicators used from a fellow dml'er. (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P6020106.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P6020107.jpg) (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b157/howleylongboards/P6020109.jpg) So thats it to now. I'm stoked with the transformation! Best thing is I didn't kill my bank account doing it (much), and I did all the work myself that was possible. I still need to make up a new shorty tail and license plate holder, but its well one the way to being done. It obviously looks ok, I was talking to a bloke at the servo who thought it was the latest model! ;D It get comments all the time now. Hope you like it! Title: Re: My Bike, The story so far Post by: Howley on February 02, 2009, 12:54:17 AM Sweet bike. Whatsup with the gigantic license plate? The guy who had it before me put too much writing on the plate. I agree it's way too big. I want M900 instead, I'm even considering losing the custom plate altogether. Are those covers one of the Dreamvee "Eyecatcher" sets? Yessir they are. |
