Title: Ducati Recall
Post by: tristantumble on February 01, 2009, 05:21:40 AM
Came across this, although the monster isn't listed, i had this happen to me once over the summer. the electrical just died, pulled over, tried re starting until it finally did. Took it to the dealer, but they had no idea. Should this recall notice cover monsters as well? anyone else have this happen?

****DUCATI Recall (#2008428) Nov 28, 2008

Models Involved: 2007-2008 1098, 1098 TRICOLORE, 1098R, 1098S,
2008-2009 DUCATI 848

Number of Vehicles: 697

Problem: On certain motorcycles, the voltage regulator may fail, causing an expected loss of electrical power. As a result, the engine could stall without warning. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.

Correction: Dealers will replace the voltage regulator and install a heat shield."

No it doesn't affect the Monster.  The SBK has a full fairing and the voltage regulator is close to the exhaust.  The fix is to install a heat shield.  The problem you are experiencing is not related either.  When the voltage regulator dies, the battery is no longer being charged.  Once the battery is depleted the bike dies and does not start again unless you hook the bike to an external charger or fix the problem.

Absolutely true!  The Monsters are not affected by this campaign, only the 848 and 1098 Superbikes.
