Title: 900SS front brake calipers and rotors for S2R 800? Post by: sgs2r on February 01, 2009, 11:06:18 PM hi everyone,
i'm thinking of swapping out the front brakes (calipers and rotors) of my S2R 800 (05) for a 900SS (97). the 900SS ran for 19k miles and the seller has said that the rotors are in good condition and are not bent at all. what i'm worried about is fitment issues. anyone out there who has experience in brakes swap? i know that the S2R 1k brakes would fit right on, but a 900SS? thanks for your input. appreciated. Post by: monsta on February 02, 2009, 01:41:39 AM check the distance between the mounting bolt spacing because some models have a 45mm spacing (i think the 97 SS has) and some have 60mm.
then, measure the distance from the inner face where they bolt up to the center of where the pads sits and compare with the other to make sure the offset is the same. If thats all the same, you should be right to go. why do you want to swap? I would have thought the brakes would be comparable if not better on the s2r800... I would have thought the brakes would be comparable if not better on the s2r800... well, i installed clipons on the bike. the coffin masters were in the way (see pic). i swapped out the coffins for the S4R masters. one thing leading to another, i'm now thinking of the changing the rotors and calipers... hehhehhe... (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3341/3246667011_28bbb3e9d7.jpg?v=0) i may be wrong, but i was thinking that the 900SS calipers (4 pistons, 2 pads) would give me more braking power on the track too... at least not as grabby as the 4pad ones and i can still use them on the road! and i reckon mine has only 2pistons, 2pads? the 900SS calipers have got 40mm spacing... need to check mine! thanks! The 900ss calipers are the 40mm mount and your forks are the 65mm mount. I did a similar swap to my S2R800 (http://pics.livejournal.com/ca_cycleworks/gallery/00001q3t). (http://pics.livejournal.com/ca_cycleworks/pic/00001xtp/t9678z) (http://pics.livejournal.com/ca_cycleworks/gallery/00001q3t) You can buy (or make) brake adaptors which allow the 40mm calipers to fit on your forks with the 65mm mounts, but they're not exactly cheap ($169 -- and backordered). You could probably get 65mm calipers from eBay for less. They're the same on almost all 2000+ Ducatis as well as many Aprilias. :) Chris |
