several folks in NY have tried to sell their phone numbers and they always get slapped down by Verizon.. i remember when 212-867-5309 was on ebay about 6-7 years ago.

you don't own your phone #.  you can take it with you, but you can't transfer it for money.

It says registered on Vonage.  I believe those are transferable.

Hate to post conflicting information but....

I bought a phone number once.  Actually I bought a competitors pizza delivery business and as a stipulation of sale I recieved the phone number.   No phone number no sale.  I then promptly closed his store, liquidated his equipment and had the number forwarded to my store.

In essance I bought the phone number.

It was a good thing, increased business by 35% overnight [thumbsup]

that is not the same thing

the corporate entity that subscribed to the phone service is what you bought, and thus, is transferable because the corporation is transferable.  business lines work differently from individual lines.

most small businesses have individual lines.

if that business you bought owed $1mil on the equipment in the corporation's name, guess what? you bought that debt as well!

it is "possible" to transfer a phone line, but the phone companies do not permit you to sell it -- but they have to catch you doing it!

Moving forward let's assume I am not a total idiot ok (or at least my attorney is not an idiot).   ;D

First, any attorney worth his salt is going to investigate all corporate debt before any deal is signed.  It's called due diligence.  If your lawyer doesn't...it's called malpractice.

Second, I did not buy his corporation nor would I have wanted to.  I purchased his equipment, customer list and franchise agreement...and phone number.  His corporation ceased to exist as soon as the deal was signed...and any of it's debt remained his sole responsibility.

Third, your statement conflicts itself.  I did not purchase a big enterprise size business.  I purchased a small business doing about $900k a year in sales (modest for pizza delivery).  Therefore, using your logic...he would have had individual lines?

My attorney saw no problem making the successful transfer of his phone lines a stipulation under the terms of the sale.  If it was illegal it seems that my lawyer would have been wary about getting involved...his BAR membership and all, barring him from conducting illegal business.

Additionally, desirable 800 numbers sell all the time, frequently for big money.  My dad used to own 800-COLLEGE (he owned Student Painters Corp.) and sold it for a bundle.

i wasn't arguing with you big fella.

just pointing that since your attorney did the work that you might not be fully aware of all the underlying cogs & gears involved.

and my comment about debt was a general one, i wan't saying you bought any debt.

your attorney did good due diligence?  great!  thats why you pay us the big money!

Holy shit...someone is going to come in here and post a comment on the original topic of the thread??!! How DARE I??!!

Anyway, back on the topic of the thread, who wants to bet that some 0 feedback douchebag put in $867530.90 as their max bid? Funny part is, I seriously doubt anyone would follow through with this transaction. I mean while it *IS* a great number, it's not like it's virginity which we all know is the going commodity these days on EBay.

it's not a fine, the city pays you to piss since it cleans the sidewalk -- it's a filthy place!

I lived in Brooklyn and then Manhattan for 16 years, recently relocated to the DC area.

it's filthy.  you can't have that many people coughing, spitting, farting, eating, shitting, exhaling and talking all in such close proximity without it being filthy.

take the 5 train from Bowling green all the way to 125th street and count how many people pick their noses.  Yeah, I know you have better things to do...

A survey in 2005 found only 2/3rds of men coming out of the bathroom at Penn St washed their hands...

think about it...

Depends on the situation...

At work/home/most places, yes I absolutely scrub the paws.

Penn Station...  Don't know if I would.

The local saloons...   Absolutely not. I've seen too many people piss in the sink when the line gets deep.

P.S.  Since this is my thread you all have permission to jack it.

Segue to the original topic...

This guy is selling his business with phone number attached as well...not just the number.

and 8-10,000 calls a year.
just take your number off the do not call list and you'll get that many telemarketers easy.
