I need you to post up here if you meet the following criteria...just a simple *Me* will do.
1. You are a PC gamer in some form or another. Mention your favorite PC game genre too please.
2. Do not own but would like to own FarCry2 and/or Call of Duty: World at War
I have an extra copy of each game that I will be giving away as PIF gifts but I don't want to be sending them to someone to sell or whatever. I want to give them to people who will actually play them. I got 2 copies of each with the NVidia GTX285s I just bought and I only need 1 of each.
Thanks.
Hmmmmm.. I played COD 4 on my xbox and played COD 5 on my wii but the wii sucks for Shooter games.. Most of my games are PC based.. Yes, i played WOW, BattleField 1942,Vietnam,2142,battlefield 2,(battlefield was my favorite) COD 4, and would play COD 5 but have my funds focused on a moto right now.. Anyways.. Just figured I would chime in.. Have a good one..

1. MMO's, RPG's and shooters. Bioshock, Oblivion, WoW, WaR, EVE, FFXI, Diablo 1 & 2.
Just signed up for the Jumpgate Evolution beta last night ;D
2. I would be interested in both, but either of them would probably finish off my vid card, plus with the new bike arriving SoonTM I really wont have time to enjoy them as much as someone else.
Sounds like someone will get a rocking PIF gift though [thumbsup]
Me
been wanting to get back to basics with some shooting action games.
Once I get a few more people, I will be doing a name drawing from a hat for each game.
Winners will be posted and PMed for shipping info.
Don't despair if you don't get it the first time around as I plan on buying a third for Tri-SLi (Would have bought the third this round but had to put tires on my damned truck) and will have 1 additional copy of each in a few weeks...
I played Morrowind and oblivion, cool games but my laptop is too weak graphically
played Guild Wars and WOW...same game...booooring
Love BF2 still playing it
Me!
I feel my GPA dropping already.
I love fps's and I went with your recommended video card a while back, but don't have any high horsepower games to try it out with.
Me! My dad plays too! [roll] ;D
We used DOOM and Duke Nuke'em [evil] together when I was a kid. I attribute that to his elbow pains which have gotten really bad as of late. He wanted me to dig out my Half-life2 copy that came with my last video card so that he could play now that his computer is up to par for the game. I won't let him because it will just aggravate his elbow. :-\
I play just about anything other than sports games. PC is my preferred platform for shooters and strategy. Consoles are my adventure/ RPG outlet.

Im taking myself off the list.
My heart's not in it. I'm afraid I wouldn't play enough to be worth depriving the next guy of one of these games.
<bows out>
COD4 for the pc is getting too easy and I cant afford a 50 dollar COD world at war right now.
a friend is sending me a geforce 9600 gt 512 in the mail. COD-WAW would prolly run pretty good on it.
Btw hardcore FPS player here.

Just did the drawing. I will be PMing the winners for their shipping info. To those who didn't, don't worry. In a week or two, I will have 1 more of each that I will be doing the same thing for.
COD:WaW winner is: wbeck257
FarCry2 winner is: JDucati
Congrats and I will revive this thread when I get the other copies.
Well, there goes this semester :D
Thanks, and I'll make this one good for you too...
found this too late, but I'll reply anyway...
Just got back into CounterStrike after not playing for the better part of a year (coincidentally, just got out of a relationship...)
Started playing Left 4 Dead (get this game!)
I have Guildwars and tend to get into it for a while, then put it aside again for a while.
I refuse to play WoW because there is no way I'm going to pay for a game and then keep paying more every month to be able to play it.
Me. I only play FPS
Bumping this up as I got the other 2 copies last night. If anyone else is interested (other than the previous winners...sorry guys trying to spread the wealth hehe) post up.
Oh me me! I'm a nerd.. and I just got a 9800 GTX+ that I want to get some use from

1. Mostly RTS, but I dig a good FPS. I need to get that Demo of Dawn of War II...
2. I think I've already got that CoD - if it's the WWII one where you start of the 1st cut scene as a prisonser of the Japanese - I've got that one. Came with the afore mentioned video card.
I'm interested would be good to see if my PC can handle these games well or not. Running evga 780i, 2 8800gt in sli
By the way tri SLI with the 285 holy shit that thing must waste any game you put in it. You using the x58 board from evga?
I'm still interested. ;D
Side note, whatcha getting so many video cards for? :P
I'm a PC gamer.
I dig the FPS / RPG / RTS genre (currently wasting way too much time playing fallout 3)
Pick me! ;D

there is no such thing as wasting time when it comes to fallout [cheeky]
Hmm I'm wondering if my poor old Athlon 3700+ is going to be upto this task ;D I think my new video cards GPU might be giving my main processors speed a run for it's money...
Anyone got a socket 939 chip thats faster n that they want to sell on the cheap?
No need to put me in the drawing, just wanted to post up. ;D Have 'em both, played 'em both, loved 'em both.
Whoever ends up with FC2 , make sure you learn the bus system to save your self a shitload of travel time and tedium! [thumbsup]
I'm pretty much FPS all the way....
Current rig specs as of last night:
CPU: Q9650@4.05GHZ MOBO: XFX 780i SLI
RAM: 2x2GB Patriot Viper PC8500 HSF: Xigmatek HDT-S1283
GPUs: XFX GTX285 TRI-SLI HDD1: 2x150GB WD Velociraptors in RAID 0
HDD2: 2x500GB Seagate Barracudas HDD3: 1TB Seagate Free Agent External
OD1: Lite-On BD-ROM OD2: LG DVD-RW w/Lightscribe
CASE: Cooler Master HAF-932 PSU: PCP&C TurboCool 1kW
Display: Dell 3008WFP UltraSharp
And it didn't have any issues with any game at 2 in SLI but I have a compensation issue so...
I also run 3 instances of the GPU Folding @ Home client and 2 Windows SMP clients when I am not gaming. Doing my part to help research protein folding and mutation!
I will be doing the drawing on Sunday night so if you want in, just post up. I have up until the post before this for names (hypurone excluded).
Sorry- this is a little off-topic, but this sounds like the group to ask. My kid got me MotoGP 3 for Christmas, and I can't get it to recognize my steering wheel/ pedal controls. So I have to play by the keyboard, which means I spend a lot of time in the gravel. My controllers are from about the turn of the century (this century), so maybe they are too old. What controllers would you recommend for MotoGP and racing sims? (I have a mediocre HP Pavillion about 3 years old running XP). Thanks for any advice.
iDuc, I'll do a little digging tonight and post up later with some recommendations...

With the size of those cards supposedly the X58 from evga was the only board that could fit all three without having fitment issues. Saw a few reviews and the 780 boards were all having to put the 3rd card in at a bit of an angle to get them to fit.
Does that power supply seem to hold up well so far running all three cards?

I would think 1000w would be plenty big...

Actually it just depends on how the rails are split and just how efficient the power supply is. On some of the reviews they tested several PS trying to find out and some 1000w were fine but others would shut-down or just not supply sufficient power to the cards when running all three. The reviews I saw were on the 280 cards and the 285 draw a bit more power than the 280 series. One review I saw had a 1000w PS cant remember the brand but they had to rig up another 400w unit to run the 3rd card. The only reason for the question is I would like to know from someone with experience what works because I will build a PC like this when the newer version of the X58 board comoes out that supports true tri sli (currently no board runs all three slots x16 even the current x58 only has 2 x16 slots but the improved version is coming out soon and it is supposed to have 3 x16 slots for the gpus)
Actually, the GTX285 is a die shrink and is substantially more power efficient than the 280 at the same and higher clock speeds. As for fitment, any true Tri-SLI board should have no fitment issues. It was a matter of 10 minutes from package open until start-up with the third card in and bridged.
Truth be told, it is how you split the 12v rail...in that you do not want a split 12v rail. A single high amperage rail will ALWAYS outperform several small amperage rails that add up to a higher number than the single rail amperage. Basically, you would have to run a connector from each of 2 rails to the 2 power connectors on the GPU PCB so as to distribute the load evenly across the rails. With a large single 12v rail, you can plug it into any of the 12v 6pin PCI-E connectors and have the load spread on one rail.
I've been fiddling/building/breaking/raping high end PCs since the Tandy 1000 was top dog on the technology food chain. Right now under full load from Crysis at max res with all the "eye candy" turned up, I am running at 70% load on my PSU. Alot of myths about needing some massive PSU have been floating around the net and when it comes down to it, an 850w Corsair with an 82 amp single 12v rail would easily run this rig as it is. And that's including all of the case fans and cold cathode lighting as well.
If your reviews happen to be Tom's Hardware Guide, bear in mind that their credibility has gone downhill about as fast as TOB's reputation as a Monster hot spot on the web. Some of the more unbiased reviews I have seen have come from places like Overclockers.net, Overclockers Club Online, Guru3D, Planetx64, Extremeoverclocking and a few more.

Couple of things here...
1. The Asus P6T WS Revolution will run 3x16x slots and is currently on the market. The DFI top of the line x58 will as well when it is released in the near future as will the EVGA Classified but EVGA has been silent about it's release.
2. Only 1 card currently on the market even comes remotely close to saturating an 8x PCI-E bus and that is the GTX295 (The 4870x2 from ATI only reaches around 70% saturation) and even then it will only load the lanes up to about 85% of their capacity. You will notice absolutely no speed difference at all.
3. The LGA1366 has been shown in countless reviews to perform staggeringly well in heavy processing environments but has shown itself to be barely ahead of a top of the line Core Duo Quad or even an E8600 OCed in gaming. 95% of the games/software out there barely scales to 2 logical cores let alone 8 virtual cores that the i7 has.
Fact is even overclocked, most processors are making GPUs sit around twiddling their thumbs while the CPU tries to keep up. The i7 improves on this but until the software begins to utilize all 4 physical cores and all 8 virtual cores, it will be like buying a Pagani to drive back and forth to the corner market 4 blocks away.
