Title: first track day on 848
Post by: tufty on May 13, 2008, 05:54:14 PM
TGPR

A very stable bike in a turn, although it does take a firm hand to get it started turning. It was geared way too high for a short twisty track, but should be just right for Road Atlanta in a couple of weeks. It has more than enough power for my sad skills.

I'm not sure about the Pirellis, they are fast to heat up but they are definitely a little squirrely off the race line on cold track. One nice thing though is they spin up in a nice almost casual way-very predictable. I think I prefer the turn in characteristics of Michelins better though.

Does anyone have any comments especially about the tyres.... come on I know some of you are itching to slag off michelin [laugh]

Very Nice. I'm running PP 2CT's and I can't say enough about how great they felt out on the track this past weekend. Use flickr or photobucket to host your photos, then you can post here.  [beer]

First time running those tires on the track. Absolutely love 'em.  [thumbsup]

I'd post a pic, but I can't figure out how yet.

Schwantz school 18 months ago was a huge step for me, I'm hoping this 848 will move me forward too. I wasn't sure how much further I could get on my Monster.

Pirelli's (race tires I'm talking bout here) always spin up on me, that's just the way they are - they move around a lot underneath you.  That is one of the many reason I prefer Dunlops (along with the fact that they're infinitely more predictable than anything else I've ridden).

I had the same impression of the stock pirellis. Early on the in the sessions they were a bit talkative on feed back but once they warmed up they felt a lot more predictable

I've heard some good feedback from local racers regarding the new Bridgestone BT003.
