Title: Solution: S4Rs bolt holes after mirror removal Post by: Carstarphen on February 06, 2009, 11:21:40 AM Problem: I didn't like the appearance of the two holes left on the bars after I removed the OEM mirrors and replaced them with Oberon bar end mirrors. I tried to find, and spent a couple of hours looking at plastic plugs and metric bolts and could not find a good fit.
(Sometimes I can ask a question that elicits an answer that make me feel foolish for asking the question in the first place. In this case the question was posed to Geoffduc on this forum by PM.) Solution: Geoff wrote "Well, why don't you just unscrew the back half of the bracket with the hole; turn it upside down so that the hole faces downward and is unseen, and then screw the bracket together again. I have searched with that part number but the plug on the diagrams doesn't look like it would actually work? #92066 is the number... If anyone knows where I can order something that would work I would really appreciate it [thumbsup]

If you contact your local dealer he should be able to order a pair of the rear half brackets that are fitted on the hypermotard. Maybe that's where Geoffduc got his solution. I sent my PM inquiry to Geoffduc because he has a close connection to a Ducati dealership in the UK, and I thought that the Brits would certainly have some super sanitary solution to the little problem. Geoffduc told me that the real problem was that one of the mirror brackets was reverse threaded, an interesting Italian engineering touch. But it's fixed and solved now! Title: Re: Solution: S4Rs bolt holes after mirror removal Post by: brimo on February 11, 2009, 01:38:38 AM Just FYI, not (at least solely) an Italian engineering touch; Yamahas as far back as my 1972 DS-7 250 have had reverse thread mirror bosses on the left mirror, so that wind pressure on the mirror is tightening it, just as wind pressure on the right mirror on a conventional threaded mirror stalk is tightening it. isn't it the other way round? The right mirror loosens when turned clockwise? My thoughts were it's so when you hit the dirt your mirror will spin instead of snapping off. Pretty sure my old 70's yammy had the same deal. Then again I am in the southern hemisphere, so maybe our bikes were delivered the opposite way, something to do with us driving on the "wrong"side of the road or maybe ....the coriolis effect. ;) |
