Title: Headlight Brackets - how to get at them
Post by: tommys67 on May 13, 2008, 06:31:57 PM
I learned my lesson making stupid moves in working with tough to reach bolts last year, so I'm stepping back before I screw up.

I need to replace the two headlight brackets before I replace the signals and headlight.

The two bolts for each bracket are almost not accessable.

Here's my thought - take a picture of the wiring setup behind the headlight.  snip through zip ties and move things so I can easily get to the bolts.  Re-zip-tie based on my original setup.

Is there a better way to do this?  I KNOW it's simple, but ... better safe than sorry.

try this...

remove the instruments, then remove the U-bracket that the headlight brackets are attached to. then remove the brackets.

you can do it without going this route, but its a little harder  [thumbsup]

The U-bracket is not hard to remove.  The first time you do it you may need to wack it with some down force to pull it loose.  It will all go back together just fine.

What worked for me was to take off the cluster, then take out the thin metal bracket that fits "inside" the big U bracket.

I need to go back in tomorrow night to clean things up a bit, but otherwise, I'm good!

Thanks all!

be careful and make sure that the little plastic nubs on the u bracket actually go in the holes properly before tightening everything down... those plastic pieces deform very easily if you're not paying attention..
