The doctor told me I cannot shave with a conventional razor today because of the blood thinners.
I have no idea of which one to get.
What are you using?
I use a blade, but I have an older Braun that I use very rarely. It sucks.
I can't say I ever found an electric I liked...
which is why I use a blade.

;D
I have used the same Braun for 10yrs. (new foils and blades once a year)
I would buy one of their newer models, but this one keeps chugging along. [thumbsup]
Braun 8995.

I like it. I tried one of those 3 round blade ones and didn't really like it. Supposedly the 3 round head ones will always give you the closest shave - if you use them correctly. Maybe I'm dumb but I couldn't get a better shave than my Braun so I returned it. I've been pretty happy with my Braun. I only use it maybe every other day... maybe every once every 3 days but I like it. It's good at getting longer hairs when I haven't shaved for a little while and the trimmer part can help me buzz my side burns.
I had no problem shaving when I was on them. Really, unless you just started shaving, you should be fine. Just take your time...
pick up one of these

<$20 and it does a surprisingly good job
Then if you go back to blades later, its still handy to throw in your bag for travel
i like the feel of the norelco ones with the lotion in them...but mine is fubar and i've been using the travel one instead (and some days blades)
I can inmagine that you cant use blades if you cut your self easily ( like i do), but if your experienced and are use to shaving with out much knicks then i dont see why, but thats why im not a doctor.
Anyway, i've been through a few electrics, and i got a braun as a gift 3 years ago. Its been my favorite thing since sliced bread and probably the best gift i ever got in my entire life.
I have the braun 7526 (the picture shown is a 8995 and i think theres about 6 variations from mine to that one). People say electric is nothing compared to a blade, but i think its close if you use it properly. with the L'ectric smooth preshaved lotion, 1 minute for it to dry and soak into your skin, and 5 minutes with the electric, you can get about 90% as close as a blade does. When i really want a super close shave, i go electric then i use a blade, but i rarely ever get anything with the blade (except for those function patches of skin that have hair growing 19 different ways). If you drop the dime on a quality shaver, you may never go back to blades again. Its cheaper, and if you commit to the process, the ladies cant even tell the difference. The only thing is, when you first go electric, your skin might get rashy or bumpy for the first few days but it goes away with repetitive use and proper aftershave lotion. I use mine everyday.
I HATE The 3 rotary design ones that norelco has. you have to have a massive face thats flat to use one of those things. couldnt get a close shave as erkishorde pointed out. Which reminds me, im due for a new foil.
I can't use electric razors because they try to shave too close (in every direction) and irritate my skin (think microscopic cuts and bleeding).
If you already have a hair clipper, you can just take the attachment off and buzz your faze with it. Leaves you with a very short 5:00 shadow, but 0 chance of cuts and it's the style anyway, right? :P
Braun...the best one you can afford.
I've owned two.. and both lasted a long ass time, with a lot of use.

Mine came with this thing (or did my dad's come with it... iono, we got the same main shaver but different box sets) and I liked it a lot. [thumbsup]

Did you try to use a preshave lotion to soften the skin up? You might benefit from those hypo-allergenic foils.

Yeah, I pretty much tried the entire Neutrogena catalogue at one point or another, so I think it was either my crappy electric razor (triple rotary saw norelco rip-off that seemed to shave only against the grain) or just me.
I use a low end Norelco 7000 series. It's cheap and works well for me.

Oh thats DEFINTELY your problem. Those foils have to be engineering perfectly with high quality surgical grade stainless. I once had a micro tear in my panisonic wet/dry and i couldnt for the life of me figure out why my face was red and burning after everyshave, there was a micro hole in the foil that was giving me thousands of mini cuts as i dragged it along my face.
Pick up a quality electric and you will feel differently about it.

The electric razor has been my sworn enemy all these years, but now I'll plan on giving it (a far better one) another try. [beer]
[beer] braun is the best! unless you like that 3 rotary head thing.
I depends on what type of hair you have? If you have thin, straight hair, most electric razors will work.
I have thick curly hair and electric razors don't shave close enough and cause only irritation.
I purchased a top of the line braun(at that time) similar to what is pictured earlier, with no luck for my face.
I have a thick beard and so did my did. Dad would shave in the morning and need another by afternoon. We both used Norelco. They work well.
LA
I bought a Braun once & chucked it after i got the Norelco. The Norelco works pretty good if I use it at least every other day. After that I have to use a razor.

I have this one got it for Christmas. It works fine for me with a regular razor I would only have the shave every two or three days. With this its pretty much every day, but only takes maybe 5 minutes.
Whatever electric you go with, give it at least a week before you decide to return it or now. I had a Remington once (I'll get into that in a second) that I almost took back after the first time I used it, but your face really has to get accustomed to whatever you use before the irritation goes away. Shave 3+ times, then think about returning it.
Back to the Remington. It was some model with the three parallel tubular foils (not the three round ones) and it did an OK job, but I never got it to the point where it would equal a tradtional in closeness. My other beef was the battery life, which after a year was down to around 45 seconds. It would run just fine for 40, then fade off and die in about 5 seconds. I'm back on the Gillette bandwagon so I guess I don't have any positive electric stories for ya, but I can recommend you stay away from the Remington. You get what you pay for.
Thanks all good info
i love my braun series 7. i've had two brauns before it and they all ruled. the newest one is a definite improvement.
you HAVE to get one that does the self-cleaning. the antimicrobial cleaning fluid really helps with eliminating irritation and redness, at least for me it's a requirement.
I'm going to pick up a Braun this week.
Perfect timing too since Gillette isn't making Sensor Excel blades anymore (or every store is just out of them right now?)
I was complaining about the prices going up on those for a 5 pack (over $10). D*mn!! The other blades are all at least $13/5 pack!!
Before I get a Braun though..I've heard that the Panasonic Nano is worth looking at as well. Any input??
No more sensor excel?
Damn when I finally get rid of this electric that is what I am going back to

Yeah, they have the set (razor and free blade included) but I haven't seen the refills at all. I guess everyone wants 3 and 4 blades. :-\
I think the ones I use have 5. Oh that is the fusion.
I am using Braun 8595 for several years now (1173 shaves - counter does not lie ;D ) and it is great.
I have never changed blades or foil and it is still sharp.
Maybe if you have thick and hard hair it will be a problem but with regular [thumbsup]

I HOPE that they just haven't had a delivery at Target! I've used those for years.
