Title: 999 Performance
Post by: flyboy on February 09, 2009, 05:26:07 AM
Hey guys and gals. I have a 2005 999 biposto. I have been researching for awhile now about performance upgrades for my bike. I know I can get a Termi system for it but I was wondering if anyone here had other ideas. Like a lightweight flywheel, cams, etc? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks alot!  ;D

You're bike already has the "S" cams in it (which are the 03-04 "R" cams).

Get a full system or don't bother
Get your squish set, and have the cams dialed in
PCIII at a minimum, nemisis would be a much better investment.

145 whp with those above mods is NOT uncommon.  More than enough to high side you too the moon if you grab a handful mid-corner.  [laugh]

I really recommend lighter wheels. Despite the price they improve literally everything (acceleration , braking & handling) and you won't find any other single mod that can do all that. Slightly under $4K for a set of BSTs, but you won't regret it.

Beyond that, if price is a factor, in order of cost:

Lightweight flywheel and Clutch really perk up the lower gears. After that a full system w/airbox mod and tunable ECU. After that cams and squish band set.

I own a 05 999 biposto also and I agree with the idea to start with upgrades to the suspension and wheels first. I'm not a fan of the flywheel but I do like the Termi or Zard full exhaust and a pcIII (I have a Zard full exhaust and a pcIII 129hp, on my 999). Cams, HC pistons are on the list for the next service.

Thanks for the input everyone. @crankmonster Why are you not a fan of the lightweight flywheel? Does it lose low end torque? And where can you get performance cams and high compression pistons? Thanks

I've never ridden a bike with a lightened flywheel so it's more just something I don't know that much about. I've heard it both ways good and bad, so it's something I'll have to see for myself before I would recommend it to others.

I recommenced theses guys for HC pistal pistons, and cams  http://www.melillimoto.com/index.php or DucShop is what comes off the top of my head.

Ok, thanks for the advice everybody. I just ordered a lightweight flywheel from slingshotracing.net and am waiting for it to come in. The next items on my upgrade list are cams and a power commander. I can get the pc easy but can anyone tell me where to get 999 performance cams?
