who all has done this mod?
i have a few questions to ask the guys who have acutally done it...
i have PC'd my rearsets...on my S2R. what is your question?
i am wanting to get mine powder coated, but i'm scarred that with my feet always rubbing around down there it would pull off the poweder coat and it would look like sh*t. how well does the powdercaot stand up down there.
also i need someone who has done it on a 696 to tell me how i take them off and how to take the pegs off...

how to take them off: Find bolts holding them on, insert correct tool, turn counter-clockwise [evil]
powder coating is quite durable, but over time you will create 'wear' areas. Mine have been coated for about a year = 8,000 miles and the only wear currently is on the brake lever. There are other small scratches from my boots, but still looks better black then the stock silvery color. i didn't coat the pegs themselves, since i know they would wear even faster.
Nothing you coat that high use area with will last forever.

Maybe some helicopter tape over the powder coat?

would that stuff be more slippery when wet?
I want to PC them also, but I was waiting until I could find out what to torque the bolts back to. Anyone know? Someone at the dealership gave me some general torques based on size of bolt, but I'm a little skeptical.

agreed
I rattled-canned mine with black & rattle canned some gloss over that. There's a slight rub area by my heels, but the rest of it looks fine. Total cost? $4

I made a picture for those of you who need the torque specs of the rear sets. These are from the 696 service manual.

Thanks!
thanks for everyones help on this...
i took mine off and dropped them off to be powdercoated. they said they are going to sandblast off the coating so the powdercoat would stick real good!
i also did the handlebar clamps while i was at it...

mr please, what black did you go with, matte or a gloss. It is hard to tell in the pic but were you trying to match the trellis or the swingarm?
mrplease, did you leave those bushings (for the swingarm bolt) in there while it was powder coated? I spent a while today trying to get them out, couldn't do it.

I also tried to get them out, does not look like they will... Anyone know if the PC process will damage the bushing?
[evil]
i left them in and had absolutely no problems. i had them cover the bushings with tape as a precaution. they also used extra heat and coated them extra thick! i don't think they will ever chip!
i left mine in also, as i had a spare to test on. But i will say they looked a little tacky when i pulled them out of the oven, but they seem fine after cooling.
