I know this has been suggested and even acted upon before BUT...HD riders have Sturgis for a week. Why don't we Ducatisti have our own national event? Roads would have to be a main consideration to ride on. The town would have to offer something to Ducatisti...art, entertainment, racing, fashion, food, drink, ops for rides etc. Let's have an all incompasing week-long gathering at say...Taos, N.M., or Durango, Co., or some place like that? Make it in the center of the country so more people can come. Stage races, track day, vintage races, concourse, Ducati Island, training classes anything that would be interesting and fun to do. I'd love to see an event that the Ducati Factory Racing Team / Corse could get involved in. They could roll out the new line for next year's models and such. Get some name brand music to perform. Have an art/photog exhibit.
Jeepers, I could go on.
It's been suggested on our DFWM board that this be a multi-euro bike event. That seems to hold merit and would likely bring in new customers for euro-dealers.
Discuss anyone?
Why not just the US GP?? ;D
We havehad one for several years. Ducati in the Rockies... Ouray Colorado
Hey Red,
I think it's a great idea but may I humbly suggest putting your idea out there to some of the dealers that are in the geographic area you're thinking of.
They would be a good rallying point and could serve as a liasion to DNA if it comes together.
The USGP at Indy would be a good place to start, but I really like the idea of lots of Ducati (or even Italian bike) specific events, and it might be hard to intergrate that into the whole Indy event.
If you make any progress I would be really inerested.
jimi
That would be sweet to have something in the middle of the country. Kansas area? That kinda looks like the middle. Im in, just dont make it this weekend its valentines day and the wife would be pissed if I left.
Why one earth would we want to take great handling bikes to the flat, straight lands of Kansas?

DRA was awesome. It got me into Ducati and that sounds like the event you are looking for. They were set up at the track, if you have full leathers you could take your bike out. They had so many events. And to top it off........ IT WAS IN VEGAS!!!!!!!! Was great fun. That was in 2001. Wish they would do it again.

I'd like to throw out a different point of view on this gathering, no flaming, just saying...
HD can have their big day in Sturgis if they want, seems like it would be fun, if I had a HD. If I wanted to be like the tens of thousands of HD owners.
Isn't part of owning a Duc the fact that there are not thousands of them on the road? That they are unique and have character? I like the fact that most people know little or nothing about Ducati, bikers know and that's enough.
If you had a big Sturgis like event for Ducati, would Ducati still be cool? Or just another bike on the road? I say keep it small, focus around a big dealer community like SoCal and make sure it's about riding not sitting around getting drunk (although that can be part of it).

What he said.
Ok, I'm in on this years ride! I've been wanting to do Colo for years but just haven't done it. For many years I used to go to Colo with family. They had a place near Estes Park they liked to take their RV. I miss riding in the mountains.
I had heard of DiTR from some peeps down here. Before I had heard about DiTR I thought that So Co would be the perfect place. Base at Durango sort of thing. I also thought of Taos as a central place with some good roads.
I think that in order to get true national involvement the whole thing would have to have the blessings of DNA. On the riding side of things So Co would work well because peeps would come to ride. But on the track side/ race side of things I'm not sure if there is a track that could hold such an event for club racing/vintage racing/AMA event styled racing on a large scale. Indy would certainly hold that but from what my friends say about it who went up there last year said the roads were alright but not challenging to ride. So there's the rub as to where to hold the whole affair. Utah wouldn't be a bad place at all but the easties would harang us westies about putting the event too far to the west. I also think that in part the success that Indy had last year, Ducati-wise were in the local strong dealership in the city. They hold down the local appeal and a place for national to showcase from a known point of business.
DNA will want brand association at the fore front. I think that with a backdrop like Colorado no matter where you put it if it fits ride to it! You guys have my support on the idea. Any realistic places that come to mind?

??? what is there in the center of the country besides lots of nothing. How about at a major city, or take over a racing event and call it ours. I vote for some where in California, there are many Ducati dealers here that could help out with an event.

You ever try to party in a dry state? We'd need to buy harley baggers just to get enough liquor in with us.
I like the idea of Ouray, CO, and although it's a 2,000 mile trip for me from VA, I'm seriously thinking about driving out.
Another alternative in the future could be holding a Ducati event around Knoxville TN, and running the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. There is a large Europen motorcycle dealership in Knoxville (Destination Motorcycles) who may be interested in some form of sponsorship. I guess Honda holds an annual event in this area, but cancelled this year, apparently because of the poor economy and low turnout last year. Food for thought anyway.

My response to that is solely based upon availability to the masses. Hey, hands down Cali has facilities but more than any consideration Cali has the roads which we all know is most appealing.
Again, please discuss!

Mike. I'm sorta in the same boat. It's going to be a ride for me too but I want to see a huge mass of of Ducatis in one central location. That is why it makes logical sense to hold it as near the middle of the U. S. as possible in order to have the numbers present to get the national attention to the Ducati brand it deserves. Hey. it's no secret we all know the virtues of owning the most thoughtful, best handling moto on earth but does anyone get it? The only reason HD has the following it has is because of the history and legacy associated with the brand. They have nothing on Ducati and they respect us for it. That is my passion in a nutshell. Ducati motos have saved my life more than once.
Ouray is a done deal for '09.

Colorado is a great location maybe not central .... but it has room and roads to roam ... as compared to more congested places Like LA or NYC; Its also a good destination place to ride to; lots of variety on routes you could take etc. I haven't read the links but it sounds good already.
Oray Colorado already seems like it is the Duc National; see below

[wine]Munch, point well taken. Again, you'll get no truck from me about the obvious for So. Co. and I for one would be in favor for it. But I am just one. The purpose for my posting this thread is to illicite the reverb of the Ducatisti on a national level. Being born and raised in Texas my natural inclination to hold such an event would be in in So. Co. Please understand given the nature of a national event I have to be even that more even handed. That said and my intensions clear, the argument therfore lies within the constituancy of this or any other involved group. As for a personal viewpoint, my tendencies are for what is best for all.
It seems that it is up to us to push this thing through on our own. I beleive there is an opportunity at hand to promote such an event even in hard economic times. That being said where it goes from here is going to be up to us.
I will post up another thread to gain insight from a poll that I hope will show the main interest and support areas. Your input will be crucial so please participate.
I am convinced that there is a need here and will this if warranted.
Thanks Y'all

We are certainly spoiled here in Nor California. We've got the most amazing roads you could want, sun, beaches, culture, 4 different tracks to choose from, 5 Ducati Dealers near the Bay Area... But. It's all the way left coast, it's expensive, and in the summer, you got the tourist traffic.
One thing I'm wondering about So Co. is - I'm guessing here - less fighting SUV's full of grandmas for the twisties? What about [leo]?
Looks pretty remote. Details?
What is the "night life" there in Ouray and other amenities?
Just throwing this out there to get everyone on the same page, of the list from the first post, perhaps it would be good to prioritize the most important elements: culture, night life, track, ride together, central location etc...

Do you have any information about the Monster gathering? Website?
I like the list coordination D ;D.
Well, Left coast, East coast, Third coast, each has many moto events during warm wether. I can name a slew of em here in Texas. As an alternative I could just as well pitch The Texas Hill Country's (THC) Three Sisters Run each year as a prime location. Timing again would be the issue because it is one of the most heavily traveled rides for all moto types during the warm months (11.5 months out the year that is). That could be an option during the winter holidays for the northern riders as well as anyone who would like to ride during the colder months for those above the 30th parallel. I have riden just about everyday this winter (except the past two weeks, recovering from carpel tunnel surgery). The weather here has been spectacular since it started to cool down in mid-November this year. The temps just a week ago were in the high '70's and low '80's in places all over. Now is a great time to ride the THC. Thing is, no tracks, no national races, not many Duc dealers and certainly no culture or night life outside of Austin chic culture. So that is not really an option.
I'm thinking again that in order to produce an event that ALL Ducati riders will want to attend it is going to have to be set up around something like what is on the list of top things Ducatisti like to do because, well, Ducatisti like racing, drinking, riding, high-class fashion, drinking, fine food, wild sex parties, drinnnkling and....! ;D Well you get the picture. So, putting our heads together to come up with a suitable place is the challenge. I know that therer will be several people here in DFWM area will attend if it comes to be. This and other Ducati forums will need to be informed and discussions like this one need to be instigated.

From most of the posts on this thread it seems as if So Co is getting most of the love. Tn. is coming on. Left coast is there if people want to shell out the bucks. So far those are the only viable locales. Anymore?
I have one sure fire interest in backing this event already from Angel Fire, New Mexico. I have been informed that the town would like to host this event. That said I'm sure that none of the aforementioned amenities would be met ie..racing, track day, dealer involvement etc.
We need some major participants here folks or this is just going to be another ride-to event. I'm fine with that but the main thrust of this thread was to get some input on all the how's, when's, where questions worked out. More than that I was mainly interested in seeing if anyone or any group would be interested in doing such an event. In order to organize a national event there needs to be some major footwork and connections made with resources organizations that can actually put such an event on the map and in the eye of the public. From what I have gathered here is that we have about 30 people who think this would be a good idea. If anyone would like to see this come to fruition please spread the word around this possibility and see if we can get some interest in finalizing this. If not then the idea will pass on and we will not have a signature event that we can all call our own. If this is not an interest we as an owners group do not have then I thank each of you for your input and I would hope to ride with you at some time in the future.
Post up people! Let's see what more people think. Get this link out to each of your local forums and get some action going. Time is short to organize this. Thanks again, RED.

Ok, I can see that met with some over the top enthusiasm. [laugh]
I think at this point trying to do something other than what is already established and given that at least now what is known as the center of the National Ducatisti Universe (U. S. A. version) Ouray has it. Shall we see now how much national attention we could generate as far as getting this to a national event status or is everyone (responsible ones only ;D) satisfied to just leave things the way they are and for me to shut my mouth and ride? Don't everyone speak at once. [popcorn]

Well, I think that if the peeps of DiTR want it a national event then they would more likely be the ones who would promote it. I for one will try like hell to get up there in August (my b-day present to me) to check it out. Growing up we spent the summers at Estes Park and I got to travel all over the Rockies. So, it's ingrained in my heart already. I think it's the perfect location for such an event. I would support the So Co riders 100% if they want to make it such an event.
