Title: Fun with cars!!
Post by: mostrobelle on February 11, 2009, 07:25:06 PM
Cruisin' up Harrison St. off the Embarcadero in S.F.:  My normal route home.  Harrison is pretty backed up--both lanes leading to the bridge are jammed.  The intersections--jammed.  Cars, cars, cars everywhere.  I'm weavin' and bobbin', up and around, over bumps, lumps, past jaywalking pedestrians all the way to the main entrance to the Bridge.  At this point we wait.  Traffic cop has control of the light.

I had decided to take my place between the 1st and 2nd cars in line to the light.  It was a little tight, so I stayed just off to the right and just sorta stuck my nose in to make sure I was out of the way of the other lane of traffic continuing straight on Harrison.  The light is red and is going to stay red for a while, so I just chill out.  And this is when the car that I'm just in front of decides to cause a little trouble.

I see him inch up out of the corner of my eye, closing the gap between him and the car in front of him, which might make it slightly tricky to squeeze in when the light turns.  He's been there for longer than I and he must know that we ain't going anywhere, so what's his deal?  I figured he was a little pissy because I'd cut in line.  I was right.  Shortly after the inching forward bit, he lays on the horn.  I ignore him.  He does it again, and yells, "Hey!"  This time I turn around.

Middle-aged white guy in a some sort of a beigey Buick number is freaking out behind his steering wheel.  He's yelling, and he's yelling at me.  His face is purple and it looks strangely odd against his sweater vest and his polo shirt.  This guy is really lettin' me have it.  Wish I could hear some of it.   [laugh]  So Bridge-n-Tunnel continues to rant as I stare blankly at him and take in mundane facts about his car, his right nostril flaring more than his left, the single piece of hair that's now out of place because of the fist shaking that's begun.  His car is bouncing because he's so angry.

I decide to have a little fun with him and put my ear to my helmet and shake my head to motion "I can't hear you.  What?"  So the loser opens up his window and starts screaming, "I HATE YOU PEOPLE!"  Other cars are looking around at him.  So I do the motion again, and point to my bike like, "I still can't hear you."  [popcorn]  At this point he's trying to pull himself out of his car window to give me a real what-for, and then the light turns green.  Buh bye!

Never saw what happened to him, but he must have had a little trouble getting back into driving position.  Had he really been on the ball I would have had to actually put a little effort into cutting in front of him.  Instead I easily took my place in front of him and some other sane person had time to merge ahead of him as well.  I tried waiting for him on the Bridge but honestly couldn't go slow enough.  He must have gotten caught up in the merge mess behind me.  I was practically at Treasure Island by the time I gave up.  I was hoping to get him a little more worked up and then call in his license plate to 911 when I got home to report a dangerous road rager, but alas...we never met again.

What a tool.   [laugh]  [moto]

I can't even imagine what his deal was. People are so weird. And at rush hour times 10. All these little rules they seem to make up and all the big rules that are written on signs that they ignore. It's baffling. And - it's not like I don;t drive a car sometimes. I drive a car sometimes and I don't get what the deal is. It's like it's racial or something. It's two-wheelsim.

Ahh, you drive by my place on your normal commute (Harrison and Main)! When I get home, I watch all the cagers line up daily and prolly seen that same dork more than once. I'm pretty sure it's him because no other cagers react to MC riders like that.  [roll]

First you get the meter maid, now a cage. What's next on your list?  [laugh]
