Title: Re: 41 is coming. Post by: desmoquattro on February 12, 2009, 11:42:21 AM i suppose you don't remember the last time nori was on a duc? I've read about it. IIRC, he showed promise but it was ultimately a privateer team (Renegade something-or-other). Of course, SBK at that time was known as the Ducati Cup. This is a real factory team, so let's see what happens. Title: Re: 41 is coming. Post by: derby on February 12, 2009, 12:32:52 PM I've read about it. This is a real factory team, so let's see what happens. you should really check out that season on racing-underground. if the bike hadn't been prone to mechanicals, that could've been a very different season for him. his rides when the bike stayed together were breathtaking. re: ducati cup... worldsbk had been called that for the better part of a decade at that point. it's a really funny name considering ducati was the only manufacturer that would sell anybody a turnkey customer superbike. buying something comparable to colin's rc45/rc51, or yanagawa's zx7-rr, or haga's yzf750/r7, etc, was just silly talk. about the closest you'd get to having "other" bikes on the grid were whatever the wildcards brought. that said, while ducati was the only factory team on the grid at the beginning of the 1000cc era, the tire rules coupled with the outright power of the 1000cc 4-cyls really made it more of a riders championship than a "ducati cup." Post by: MendoDave on February 14, 2009, 08:50:20 AM I liked how he beat everyone last year when he had to race with those pins in his collar bone [thumbsup]
I also like how Derby can write all those paragraphs while his head goes back & fourth endlessly [cheeky] Title: Re: 41 is coming. Post by: BastrdHK on February 15, 2009, 06:30:04 PM Nitro has heart......and I will take heart all day long. I remember last year he did not qualify particularly well, but he would make his way to the front more often than not. He is a fighter.....he and Bayliss were always a blast too watch! Thats why Bayliss and Haga respected each other so much, they are the same type of racer. Ducati could not have chosen a better rider from the WSBK paddock for the factory ride! 8)
Oh, and Shakey Byrne looks like he has something to prove this year. Title: Re: 41 is coming. Post by: Turf on February 15, 2009, 09:37:14 PM Nitro has heart......and I will take heart all day long. Agreed about nitro, he's always been a fav of mine. Shakey is the man though, he rode the piss out of the bike in BSB last season. Ducati's going to be hard to stop this year. Title: Re: 41 is coming. Post by: gm2 on February 15, 2009, 09:45:27 PM assuming nori can keep the rubber side down. testing so far has been... an adventure. no arguments that he's consistently one of the most exciting guys to watch.
i'm pulling for shakey too. but the unfortunate reality is that bike will probably start to fall off pace again mid-year, comparatively speaking. then he'll have to xaus his way into results. not that he can't do that. Shakey has a balls to the wall style of riding anyway, I think he's got a damn good chance Title: Re: 41 is coming. Post by: El Matador on February 16, 2009, 10:57:02 PM i suppose you don't remember the last time nori was on a duc? Just saw the 2004 season. Goddamn it was good. Even though I knew what the ending was, I found myself rooting for Chilli and being crushed every time he didn't make it. Funny how that happens. It's like watching a titanic movie and hoping that the boat wont crash |
