Looks like it's a DVD only thing--at least for now.  I wonder if I could make some calls to local, small theaters and see if they could run it.  Otherwise is someone interested in hosting a party?  I can do it, but my living room and TV are small.   >:(  I'll buy the DVD and bring a cake.   ;D

Called.  A real theater will run us about $650 to rent out.   :o

Found another smaller venue though.  They have a private room with a very large flat screen.  Beer, wine, pizza, and all the other theater fudes are available for additional cost.  Seating is just table/chairs.  We bring the DVD and they take care of the rest.   [thumbsup]

$150 total for a maximum of 23 people.

oooo...good point.  I'll just ask them.  No one mentioned anything when I talked to them.  I told them that I was buying a movie and had a bunch of buddies that I wanted to watch it with.  I'll be more explicit with them.

I emailed the Space place and they said it was $200 a hour but I think that was to rent the entire place.

I emailed them back to get more specific information.

I still haven't gotten any calls back from my attempts to reach them Sunday night.  I'm home sick today, so if I get bored I might try to give them a ring again. 

Okaaaaay....

The Roxie called back.  We can rent out their "little theater", seats about 50, for a minimum of 2 hours at $100/hr and that's on a Sunday before noon (cheapest time)--the movie is 87 minutes, so that should be enough time.  We can bring our own food/drink, including booze.  The concession stand will be open for us if we want it to be.  I asked about the legality of showing the DVD and he said as long as we're not charging admission, then it's fine.   [thumbsup]

Sounds pretty good to me.  I mean, the Roxy!!!  And even for $200 we only need 10 of us to get it down to 20 bucks a piece. 

So how would we like to do this?  Desmostro has kindly offered up his pad, we have some other cool venue choices--they all look to be about in the same range.  Point me in a direction guys and let's start making some decisions.   [beer]

Did I mention I do a mean impression of Tom Cruise circa "Cocktail" (Not really.  I'm much taller and nowhere near as gay, but I do pour a tasty and volatile drink)?  I also have a spare room, and uber comfy couches for those that may need to stay a bit longer than the movie.  A nicely sized kitchen can be made available for all manner of bacon making as well.

It's not my shindig, so I'm not making the rules.  Talk to Heather.   She gets to invite whatever she wants.

That said, since you asked for my two cents, I'd say that if it's a DMF event, then it's important to distinguish between inviting folks from BARF and inviting BARF in general.  Many of us are "folks from BARF" as are some of our friends who are not on the DMF.   Hell, Heather is even a BARF mod.  It's just like our 'geist nights.  Anyone is welcome whether they have a monster or not (or even whether they ride or not).  But we don't advertise the gathering on BARF.

I wouldn't suggest making an open invitation to BARF people, per se.  There's just too much leghumping and what-not associated with that, especially if I invite them.  As Spidey said, if you know quality people (and they happen to be on BARF or they do not happen to be on the DMF) they are welcome.  Don't bring your buddies that can't handle their liquor.  Don't bring losers that are going to say, "That's phat, bro," everytime one of the motorcycles crashes.  Don't bring tools that will be pissed that there weren't more wheelies and burn-outs.   ;D

Looks like we're leaning heavily towards The Roxie with a close run for 2nd between Dan's House o' Doilies and Boobies.  (You guys are such high schoolers....  [roll])   [cheeky]  (Boobie votes get split evenly between the 1st and 2nd ACTUAL venues.)

So if we continue on this voting streak, I'll need to work out the funding.  I can put the deposit on a credit card, but I'll need to collect money soon after--this ain't a State Project--no IOU's!  I'll buy the movie, but I'm gonna toss it into what y'all owe me for the theater.  I thought perhaps I could take down a list of names and those of you committed to going could paypal me?  That way if you flake at the last moment I'm not left picking up the tab for your lame butt.   ;D

as for movie purchase cost, your suggestion is absolutely fair and correct ... it should be dropped into the cost of space rental for the event ... and should then be door prized off to one of the attendees after the screening.

Borgo Panigale time simply means that we tell people to show up at 8AM, and then they show up at 10AM.

Heather, a better way to figure out a good date and take attendance/collect cash would be to start a new thread.  There's too much chat in this one to get it organized and many folks won't even read the thread because the title doesn't indicate the nature of the event.
