Yes, the clutch and engine share the same oil.  I used Mobil one full synthetic in my 01' m750 and had no problems but I have heard of others saying the clutch slipped when they used it.

Ducati recommends 20W50 for most Monsters in most weather conditions.  Don't you think 5W30 might be a bit thin?

10W-40, 15W-40, 10W-50, 15W-50, 20W-50 are all acceptable, in your Texas heat my recommendation would be 20W-50, preferably 15 02 20W-50, and in the case of your wet clutch, moto specific.  5W-30  is way too thin, and probably energy conserving, almost guaranteeing clutch slippage.

I'm using 15w 50 fully synthetic Motul V300 in the North West where its cool; I might have noticed a bit of clutch slippage but maybe not.

15-50 silkoline synth in my bikes

5-30 is too thin in my opinion

"Some oil is better than no oil, synth is better than dead dino"

+1

I would never use that thin an oil. And in Arizona my oil would be ?w-50.

i was reading some posting info about oil change and it says that a net or strainer that helps to keep the oil pump clean has to be cleaned when the oil change is being performed do i have to do this in my ducati? if so where exactly is located and what is the procedure?

2000 ducati monster 750 dark with 12000 miles

The strainer should be cleaned periodically.

It is located on the right side just below the side cover. There is a 21mm 'bolt' that you remove. On your bike the screen is attached to that bolt.

That nut can also be a bear to break loose.  I run Rotella synthetic in 15-40 on my '99 M750.  No slippage w/ stock clutch and 31,000 miles ~

I've been using the Shell Rotella synthetic in various machines for a long time with no problems.  In my Duc I still use the Mobil 4t synthetic that Georgecls used to recommend but the Rotella is a LOT cheaper at (aaargh) Walmart in gallon jugs and it's probably a safe bet that for all practical purposes my bikes can't tell the difference.  I have a neighbor who is a union housepainter and I have to be careful about mentioning that I buy oil at Walmart.   :)
