Title: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: JTMOTO on February 14, 2009, 12:10:30 PM I need cartridge kit for the marzocchi non-adjustables! Matris is the only company that I am aware of that will convert them to adjustable. Anyone know where to start? In the US? I can find sites overseas, but I dont want to pay the extra shipping and exchange rates. I have fully considered all other options including fork swaps of all sorts. This is the route I want to go.
Thanks, JT Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: ducpainter on February 14, 2009, 12:14:21 PM Did you look at the Traxxion Dynamics AK-20 kit?
I'm fairly certain it's available for Marzocchis. It's not Matris, but is made in this country. Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: BK_856er on February 14, 2009, 01:33:19 PM I have the Matris fork kit and it works well. Check in with PJs Parts and see if they can get it for you (they claim to carry Matris). I think Icon ordered his Matris fork kit directly from the Italian manufacturer for a competitve overall price, so that might be an option. Traxxion might be a better way to go since you'd get local support. I understand with the Traxxion kit the compression adjustment is internal, so you have to disassemble the cartridge to change that setting. The Matris kit allows external preload, rebound and compression.

CarpiMoto told me that Matris will fit them with valves, springs and oil of your choice, at no extra cost. If you didn't already know, local VAT is deducted for orders shipping outside the EU countries. It's a nice kit, but your main concern will/should be lack of service/support somewhere down the line. As an example, Matris does not answer emails. Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: junior varsity on February 16, 2009, 05:49:03 AM You ought to contact Traxxion - they are great to deal with and I went with them for my rear suspension setup. I plan on using them when I have the cash for front suspenders as well.
Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: TAftonomos on February 16, 2009, 10:34:01 AM I know others that have had matris cart's put in, but the support isn't there anymore. Jason at DOS used to carry them, and there is a good reason why he doesn't anymore.
With AK-20's available and made here in the US (right here in GA as a matter of fact), there really isn't a good reason to go through the trouble to get the matris stuff anymore (IMHO). Then again, putting race internals in a monster fork is kinda overkill....but nothing exceeds like excess. [laugh] Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: junior varsity on February 16, 2009, 10:48:42 AM Another benefit is that you can simply send your forks to 'em, they'll disassemble, polish, put in fancy parts, etc, and ship 'em back to you for you to bolt back on.
You get more than just the fancy new parts, you get the personal attention to your setup, which I think is a big deal. Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: corey on February 16, 2009, 12:15:58 PM I got a shipping quote a couple months back on the Matris kit from CarpiMoto in Italy.
52 Euro, 10 days. That's like 70 bucks... The fork kit is 630 Euro, or about $815 bucks. Kit does come with oil. You're looking at about $900 to get the kit to the East coast of the U.S. One note, if you have suburban machinery handlebars, i don't think the fork cartridge adjusters will fit under the bars... The reason i haven't ordered yet... It's risky, things get lost in shipping blah blah.. And who knows if that's 10 american days, or 10 european days (30 days). I'd use a credit card for sure, so if it doesn't ever arrive, it's not YOUR money lost. Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: JTMOTO on February 16, 2009, 01:22:56 PM Jason at DOS said to send them to him, and he would work something out with a 20mm cartridge and maybe get a cap with rebound adjustment for $6-$700. Anyone have any experience with him? He said if he could not get them to work he would not charge me anything. What do you think?

If you go that route, the sooner you get them out the better, because once the track season gets underway the good suspension guys get VERY busy. I say go for it.

When Jason/DOS was still working with Matris I ordered my fork kit from him and he did top notch work. My only complaint was that I asked him to ship back my stock internals because they only had about 200 miles on them and I never got them. Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: Spyvito on March 14, 2009, 08:46:06 AM I have the matris kit and suburban machinery bars. They will fit. I later added bar risers but not to clear the fork adjusters.

Instead, as you may have read from my other post, I found some S2r 1k fully adjustable Showas on ebay. Racetech springs and gold valve kit are more affordable in combination with the Showas, and I believe will produce a better result. I will post pics as soon as I get the tubes back from annodizing.

While I agree that adding the Racetech springs and valves is a great upgrade it's not even close to being in the same league as adding the Matris cartridges. I've also had the opportunity to ride an S4Rs with the Ohlins and even that wasn't as good as my bike with the Matris. With the Ohlins you would have to get into the R & T to get the same result. You have to remember when you install a cartridge kit you are replacing all the working parts in the fork not just a few of them like when you do the Racetech valves and springs. It's like you bought a complete new set of front forks. Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: junior varsity on March 25, 2009, 05:24:43 AM Yes, the route you chose is not a "better" setup, however you will be riding on a superior setup to what you were on, and that makes a big difference. So, as far as a better result, weighing cost vs. gain it might be the most advantageous for you, but its not going to be down right superior. At least without some voodoo magik.
Title: Re: Matris Cartridge Kit Post by: DrDesmo on March 25, 2009, 05:29:03 AM Jason at DOS used to carry them, and there is a good reason why he doesn't anymore. Can you elaborate please? Thanks! [moto] Adam In speaking with Jason he mentioned that becasue they are an Italian company they are hard to deal with. Nothing more, nothing less. In fact he absolutely loved the product and he has access to Ohlins as well which is why I initially contacted him when building my bike but he recommended the Matris over the Ohlins. Had I not already had a previous experience with Matris I may have went with the Ohlins but becasue Jason recommended it I did it.
