When I purchased my brand new 696, I also bought a service plan. It was $900 for the first 4 services- 600m, 4,000m, 8,000m and 12,000m. The contract is valid for 4 years.
The dealership made it sound like this was an amazing deal. But a few weeks later, I wondered if maybe I had gotten ripped off. In actuality, I have no idea how much the first 4 services will cost me. Maybe I'm only saving a couple bucks?
And what if I don't make it past the first 600 mile service? What if I want to move out of state? What if I sell the bike to someone out of state? What if I trash the bike? What if I don't reach 12,000 miles within 4 years?
Since I have not yet used a single service, I might have an opportunity to get out of the contract. But do I even want to get out? Maybe it's worth keeping? I really have no idea, and need the advice of those who are more knowledgeable than myself (which is pretty much everyone).
Thanks. :)
What what I've seen on here, you bought 4 services for around the price of 3. I remember several mentioning around $350 for the 1st, similar for the 2nd, a bit more for the 3rd since belts are required, 4th being similar to the 2nd.
The service intervals seem odd, I was thinking the 696 should have 600, 7500, 15000, 22500 intervals though ~

That cover normal parts (oil, filter, belts) that are know to need a swap, or is that just labor?
Around here (DC) that's a pretty good deal. The closest (not the best in the area, just closest) Duc certified shop to me is getting close to $100/hr for service. Based on that, you're paying the cost of 9 hours of serivces... But those 4 intervals will take more than 9 hours to knock out in total. If it covers things expected parts.. then it's getting to be a pretty good deal.
Generally, you do save in the long term with those plans - but they are the best thing since sliced bread liek they make it seem. Also, of course you're stuck going to that shop for the work
Rambler1982 - Um.... your Ducati 696 Owners manual lists service intervals at 600m and 7500m (with the 3rd service not due until 15000m, which falls outside your up-to-12000m pre-purchase deal). So looks to me like you're getting 2 services for the price of 3..... Whatever they do at 4000m and 12000m isn't prescribed as necessary by the book..... and the_Journeyman is correct you will need to change timing belts at the scheduled 3rd service, but since the scheduled 3rd service is at 15000 miles, that's coming out of your pocket and not included in your plan, as far as I can see...... I'd be trying to wriggle out if it were me or at least asking the dealer to explain the mis-matching service intervals....
Don't get me wrong, I plan to change oil and filter every 2500 miles in addition to the Ducati schedule, but I wouldn't be pre-paying for that.
yeah, i'm not understanding why your dealership is all stoked about selling you a "great" service plan with 4000 mi. service intervals when ducati is specifically marketing 7500 mi. intervals for 2007+ models. IMO, if they sold to you, for the same price, 22,500 miles/3 years, then that is something your dealership should be proud of.

Why your dealership is all stoked about selling you a "great" service plan is coz it's oh-so very profitable for them. They get the money upfront and then their task is to outlay as little as possible of your initial...um... investment.... Their pride comes at the end of the financial year when they revue the Bottom Line. Cynical? You betcha.
My guess is those odd intervals are oil change intervals and not major service intervals. I would definatly find out what they cover. If that just covers a few oil changes and one major service it is not that great of a deal.
cute dog though
