Hey guys,
I have to make a recomendation to one of my department directors on a new cell phone and I was hoping that I could get some actual "user" comments on either the Samsung Saga in comparison to the Blackberry Curve. I've done some extensive research into both of these units, but prefer to hear your comments if you've used one or both of these - both the pro's and the con's.

The person who I'm making the recomendation to would certainly make use of email and the keyboard which both have, in addition to certain basic functions as far as calling and messaging are concerned. But beyond that, I'm not certain of which way to go. His needs are relativly basic, with the possability of growth.
Thanks! [thumbsup]
Can your IT Department support a blackberry email system?
If you have blackberry's then you need to have Blackberry Enterprise Servers through RIM to power the system......
I am the IT department! Thanks for mentioning that. We use an exchange server for our email setup. Currently I have someone who's using the Samsung SCH i760:

and it was relativly easy to setup her phone to push her email and the local PC client application that manages her Outlook email communication between her phone and her PC. Are you saying that you can't do that with a Blackberry?
So you currently have exchange servers that power your email?
Do you use a third party or does your company own them?
Our exchange server is owned by our department.
Then you will need to purchase or lease RIM Servers.
Thanks for the info. I suppose that make the selection easier and ultimatly in favor of the the Saga.
No problem.
Blackberry and RIM really have their shit together to corner the market for their devices.
Of course if you are just running yahoo! mail or some shit like that, service providers have BES's to take care of it, but business's need to own or lease them.
Not only do you buy the phone.......but you have to buy their servers!!
The Saga looks like the Blackjack II, which is available on AT&T.
Great phone.
That's really good to know. I didn't know that about the BB's.
I was leaning more towards the Saga anyway, but wanted to do a comparison for the guy who's interested. Keeping it simple makes my life that much easier!!! [thumbsup]
Is the Saga a touch screen?
It's got the touch screen as well as the "mouse" option via thumb control.
I've used both brand of phones, but not these particular models. That being said the Samsung brand has always been my favorite, over BB, Motorola, and even Nokia. The minus to this Samsung would be windows mobile which sucks! I've also heard that windows mobile touch screens are almost useless.

Here's a video review of a similar touch screen with windows mobile.

Interesting, I've only heard good things about Windows mobile. Why do you think that it sucks?
This is good info!
Windows mobile is supposedly coming out with a new version in the next year, that will be much better than current. LG is partnering up w/MS on several new nice looking touch models to run it.

It's the way windows mobile work with a touch screen. But with the stylus and mouse you will end up not using your fingers at all. Which isn't necessarily bad, just takes some getting used to. Compared to an iphone which doesn't have a mouse or stylus, because the touch screen actually works. The full keyboard is a plus. Windows mobile just isn't as easy to use, compared to phones like the iphone os. I'm a little biased, I love my iphone. But I do like Samsungs in general, and I've heard it will sync up easily with things like Outlook. Be prepared for the phone to shut off and on and freeze up here and there. Don't know if that is a windows or samsung problem though.
Given the choice I would still go with the Saga.
Again I haven't personally used either of these phones. The last time I had a phone with Windows mobile was on a HP ipaq back in 2003 or 2004. But my bosses wife has both an iphone and some phone with windows mobile. She gave the windows phone to her kid.
I have a curve and love it

I've used about every PDA out there on Verizon and AT&T.
but then again, I'm a mobile phone admin.
Windows mobile sucks.
