Title: anybody with VDST for 5AM ECU please help
Post by: woodyracing on February 19, 2009, 01:25:05 PM
the wires on my VDST cable are at pins 1 & 3 while the wires going into my bikes diagnostic plug are at pins 2 & 3.  Can somebody with a 5AM ECU and VDST look at yours and tell me if its the same?

My VDSTS cable has three black wires coming off the diagnostic plug, which go into a piece of shrink tubing and tie into the serial port cable for the computer/hand held and the two leads to the battery terminal feed out the back side of the shrink tubing also. No way for me to tell what is tied into what pin since it is all closed up in the shrink tubing. Not sure why you have only 2 wires coming out of the diagnostics plug.

is that a 5AM ECU or a 5.9M?

I have the 5am kit for a serial port.  There are three black wires going to the diagnostics plug.

interesting, does the diagnostic plug on your bike have 2 or 3 wires?

There are only two wires on the bike side.  I thought that was interesting the first time I hooked it up - thought there was something wrong, but that is the way it is and it works.  Maybe the ground wire on the power clips is the ground and the two comm wires are transmit and receive?

edit:  talk with Giamberto at technoresearch.  He can help with anything VDST.

From what I learned so far (independant research), the power clips are utilized to translate TTL communication from the ECU into RS232 serial communication protocol (different voltages). Theres a chip inside the adapter in the middle of the cable (aka SCM module).

Also, the ducati wiring diagram i've seen has the ground connection actually connecting to ground on the diag plug.
