Found this kind of interesting. I've never lived in a dorm so I was curious to see what others who have think about it...

Thought out of left field...
If young men and women learn at an early age what it's REALLY like to live with someone of the opposite sex...
It may further decrease marriage rates. [cheeky]
On a serious note - I lived in a co-ed dorm in the late 1980's and it was a great neutralizer for dumb stupid guy stuff [beer]
We had coed bathrooms and it was no big deal. Not sure how I'd feel about a room though.
I for one have always had better luck with male friends than female ones. I would be hesitant to spend my semesters stuck in a room with other girls simply because more of them than not are catty and dramatic. I don't really have the patience for that.
I can see how it might be shocking for some parents and an absolute no-no for people of certain faiths, but I think it's kind of cool that the option is at least available. School is stressful enough as it is; I imagine being stuck in a dorm with people you don't mesh with just makes it that much worse...
“When you have a male and female sharing such close quarters, I think it's somewhat delusional to think there won't be sexual tension,†the 52-year-old Feldman said. “Maybe this generation feels more comfortable walking around in their underwear. I'm not sure that's a good thing.â€
Isn't a college dorm full of sexual tension anyway?

True enough.
[laugh] [bang] :D [laugh] [evil]
hahaha. it might keep a few dorm rooms cleaner.
btw, how do the chicks deal with being sexiled from the room for a night?

If you are inferring that female roomates are clean, you are gravely mistaken.
I really don't think it matters... in the dorm anyway. I really had a great time when I was in the dorms my freshman year, and looking back, if there had been coed rooms I don't think it would have negative effected my sexual activities. I didn't really study anyway, so I see the whole thing as a neutral change.
I lived with one of my girlfriends for a year (my sophomore year in college), and it was an incredibly stupid thing to do, but I learned my lesson.

i'm infering that with someone of the opposite sex that isn't related to you living in the same quarters, most people at that age would be more apt to not be as messy.

my roomie and i wrote yes or no on the whiteboard on our door. if it said no then we found somewhere else to sleep that night or somewhere to hang out for a few hrs. i was lucky in that my roomate wasn't all that lucky, and i had a g/f so he knew in advance when she was coming over. i was thinking about the ones that were always getting busy when i posed the question. most of the girls i knew in college waited until their roomie was gone for the night or went to the guy's room.
Brilliant!
I went to Pace University in NYC. When I lived in the dorms they had coed floors. You couldnt have a female roomate but there were floors that were coed.
My friend wanted to live with his girlfriend and I wanted to live with mine. So we just got rooms next to each other and swapped.
Overall good times I tell ya. mmmmm Pace [drink] [beer] [drink]
I had a most inconsiderate roomie freshman year. I would come home and find myself locked out of the room with the deadbolt. No note, nothing. We had a large commons room on every floor with couches and armchairs so if it was late, I would crash there. However, if I came home with a boy....forget it. She would wait in the room until we left. [laugh] It was a test of wills and I was more than willing to go somewhere else.

haha pace...i know a few people who went there. at least you had your own dorms. we had to share with LIU on flatbush.
we had co-ed floors and there were a few people that did the same thing until they got found out and were made to move.
I would think less of myself as a man if I didn't have "relations" with a women that lived in the same room as me.
I never cared if my dorm roommate was in the room when I was hooking up, but it was either stay or leave. Sometimes he'd just come in and out, until I'd be like, "Either stay in the damn room and do your homework or go somewhere else, this in and out BS needs to stop..." He decided to just stay out.
dorm rooms - prolly ok.
berthing of 60+ people, would be bad.. very bad.

they have to be somewhat better than the guys. and i'm sure a few of them are less hairy.
To avoid disparaging those that I share this fine ship with, I'm just going to leave it at "not gonna do it."
oh thats bad ass, I can't wait for next semester!

aH, i never looked at it that way.
Towards the end of my Freshman year, there was a chick in my co-ed dorm that took over a corner of the "common" living room and lined it up with sheets creating a mini curtain room. She would proceed to get freaky with her dude every night for two weeks until the RA finally put a stop to it.

we had a guy do something similar, only we called it the whack shack.
Co-ed dorm rooms would suck.
I lived on a co-ed floor, and that was cool. It was always nice wandering over to the nice smelling side of the floor. The availability of women (as witnesses) also made pranks that much more entertaining. [evil]
But it would suck to get stuck in a room with some chick you hate (and vice versa for the ladies ;)). Even if you like her (or him) at first, you'll probably end up hating her (or him) before the year is up. It's the rule of college roommates. Out of all of my friends, my roommate and I were the only ones who were still good friends at the end of the year. Even then, I was definitely ready for my own room.
I was in a coed suite when I started college in 1980. Officially, the individual rooms were single-sex. However, my room was the only one with 2 of the same sex since both our girlfriends went to different schools. The way the suites were set up, the rooms themselves might as well have been officially co-ed.
Come to think of it, I only lasted one year at that school before transferring to A&M where my wife was going to school.
Hey, I think it's okay. Except for my college age daughter. In her case I'd be cool, making random visits with a shotgun,
drugging the guy with truth serum, and hanging a sheet down the middle of the room. Other than that, no big deal. >:(

That's why you lock them up in your closet until they turn 30.

a little off topic, but........ true story
one season when i lived in the mountains, i had a female room mate. she and i shared one room (10X10) in the apartment. she was cool, and cute too , but a real slob.
i was always finding her clothes (all layers) on my bed. my GF at the time was not really pleased about the arrangement....... [roll]
