Once again, we will be packing up and taking our Ducs to beautiful Ouray, Colorado for the 2009 Ducati in the Rockies.

As it says above, we will be heading to Ouray the second week in August.  Hotel information has been finalized and rooms can be booked immediately.

Hotel info:
Accommodations have been arranged at the Best Western Twin Peaks Lodge & Hot springs.  Price per night is $138.54 plus tax.  All rooms we have blocked off are double queen beds with mountain views.  The Best Western also puts their reservations on computer, versus the post it note reservation system we experienced in the past.  The hotel is also much closer to downtown Ouray, so the hike home after a night of adventuring will be a lot less brutal.

To get your discount, you must call the hotel directly and mention "Ducati in the Rockies".

This will be my 3rd year heading out, and it's definitely worth it.  The roads around Ouray are a blast and the views are amazing.

There will be plenty of opportunities for riding with different groups going in every direction.  Make sure to bring your camera!  Of course there will be the Saturday night group BBQ and awards... Oh and cake too!

UPDATE 7/27

The hotel will be opening the Tiki Bar for us Friday evening at 4:00 pm (Two hours befor they open to the general public)

The BBQ is set for 7:00, Saturday evening. This will be buffet-style and consist of Burgers, Brats and Chicken Breasts, along with all the usual sides, non-alcohic bevs and desert - all for only $12.95/person. We will need to get an exact headcount for this Friday evening.

So, where are people coming to CO from? I'm coming from south Looosiana with my bike on the pickup, if anyone needs a ride or wants to caravan. Will probably head up and over to Dallas, then on to Ouray. I generally try to avoid driving through OK, as I was born and raised in Texas, and I therefore don't believe that Oklahoma and its people have any redeeming value whatsoever  ;D

Hopefully one of the old timers will chime in. The Best Western sounds real good and I believe its within walking distance to the bars.

were not trying to be disrepectful to the people that organized it! we were talking and we thought that the people over at the Springs were nice to us and offered up any kitchen ware if needed and let us stay in the tubs late....i personally had no issues and didnt mind the walking...

i thought it was a pretty awesome place! the best beds in the world!-in the back of the place u have a stream running buy, so hearing the water is so relaxing....u have some hot tubs there....

its at the edge of town so there is a little walk to get into town and the bars.....

There were discussions about staying at the Hot Springs Inn between Rev. Millertime, Bicks, DDGM & myself.

It was decided that we are using the Best Western as the main hotel due to the proximity to the town (no 1/2 mile or so walk along the sidewalkless road) as well as their more advanced hotel reservations (I was e-mailed a confirmation), and their accommodation for a cookout.

If you guys want to stay elsewhere, that's fine.  We'll just need a rally point for cocktails and rides.  Separately, of course.

What is the Race Fan room rate at the Best Western? I like racing.

Most people are staying at The Best Western.  This is where the Saturday Night BBQ will be.

Due to being laid off from mid-March till recently (starting a new job tomorrow), I won't have the funds or the vacation time to make the trip.  Had to dip into my hooligan fund to pay the bills.

Guess I'll have to wait till next year.

I can't really say, I have been pretty much absent from here other than a fly-by posting every now and then.  While I was laid off, I spent most of my time hauling my dad back and forth from the VA hospitals in Minneapolis and Fargo.  I should probably get something done in regards to a logo.  I may not be able to go, but I did say I'd help organize and still shouldn't slack on my duties.


Thanks man, but I doubt the new employer will be cool with me disappearing for a week just 2 months into employment.  Where to sleep isn't the problem, it's more the taking off work (missed income) and travel out there that is telling me it's not a go.

DFWM update: One more added. Daddy Duc and his black '06 999s are coming along with Slag, Aerogeek and I, RED. Daddy Duc is supplying us with a most incredibly gracious ride up the moutains in a rawkin GMC Topkick C4500 w/custom interior! We'll be pulling a 30' trailer w/ a Jeep Unlimited Rubicon and 4 Ducs. Slag has his newly refurbished super 1098s done and Aerogeek will be on her monster, me on my yellow 999 and Daddy Duc. I thought about bringing up the smoker and portable hot tub but don't think there will be room on the trailer. Hmmm...guess we could bring the 53'er. Nah... ;D

This'll be my first time @ the DiTR so I can't wait to see all you kids.  [thumbsup]

1.) As far as rain gear goes, I picked up some Frogg Toggs last week for my adventure into the Adirondack Park ... they worked GREAT (in a 12 hour rain day  [bang] ) and compress up very nicely and don't look totally goofy

2.) Anyone have a floor / extra bed?  I am debating hopping on my ZRX tomorrow and heading out to Denver this week from Boston

Has anyone 'officially' decided where we as a group are going to ride? Is there going to be different groups and different rides? Are there going to be any rides at all? The only roads I've seen on the map are 62 west from Ridgway or go south down 550 to Durango and 160 to Cortez up to 145 and hang a right at 62 back to Ridgeway to Ouray. Maybe north of Ouray around Montrose is 92 and 50 loop. The most logical route by mileage standards looks like the Ouray-Whitewater-Gateway-REDvale-Ouray loop (250 mi). I know Sturgis is this week and the rides they do is start up the bike, drive it down to the end of the street and turn around come back and park it.

We're leaving out of Fort Worth around 5 Wednesday with 3 vehicles in a caravan. We'll be in Ouray Thursday afternoon ready for some sleep.

i dont what will happen this year, but we did 92 last year and it would hurt to do it again...

typically we do a long ride sat...

then a short ride on sunday depending on how hung over people are.....

im sure when we all get there we will decide on something...thos Coloradians know the places to go  8)

I propose: A t-shirt swap.


I will be bringing several local Ducati dealer t-shirts for trade. It's always cool to be seen in a Ducati dealer's shirt from another part of the country you know, so if anyone is interested I will have shirts from Ducati Dallas in red and white as well as the Fort Worth Ducati dealer Eurosport Cycles in various sizes and colors. The sizes will vary from medium to XXL (my size is XL or XXL). So, if you wish to trade with me (or any others who choose to paricipate) then bring my size (XL or XXL) and other sizes or post up your size shirt you wish to receive and we'll work out trades for everyone. A sort of swap meet if you will. Hats will also be accepted and appreciated as well.

I've got an issue with my dog that is pretty serious and has been on my mind a lot the last couple days.  So I need to spend some time with Stella and him to get things figured out before I leave on another business trip on Tuesday (I'm currently in Vegas).

Nice 4x4 pics! I was in Big Sky Montana doing the same thing last weekend with my FJ Cruiser. It was my first time on mountain trails so I had some "oh shit" moments when I was on the side of a mountain (like your pic) but in the mud! It was a little scary because one wrong slide in the mud and.............................................................splat!

Was Wade there? (Rev Millertime) I bumped into him on the way back home at a gas station in S. Dakota. We didn't talk about the gathering, but I know he was on the road working.......what's up Wade!

I ran into Slag's group at the tailend of Telluride where the road starts climbing.  We were getting shots of Bridal Falls.  How do you like your FJ Cruiser?  I have a '78 FJ40.  It can climb a telephone pole, but my nerves can't take stretches like what is in that photo.  I would have one foot out the door half the time.

I love it! Thanks for asking...it's one of the new ones. I think that Toyota did it proper justice with this retro design. It drives great and has tons of power. I pull an enclosed trailer with two racebikes and gear with ease. This was my first trip into the mountains with it, and I think that this thing rocks! I'll post up a pic from the trip later.

Wade wasn't able to make it this year, unfortunately.

I think the sour economy and some unexpected personal issues kept more than a few people away.

I love mine.  I have had it since 1990.  It's been up alot of mountains on my climbing adventures.  It is my steed and I'll have it forever.

Yep, I'm just heading back to sweaty Houston now - thankfully I have one compelling reason to go back. The boys braved the long drive back by themselves so that I could spend some time with a sick family member and surprise my dad for his bday so I'm incredibly grateful to them both for that! [bow_down]

As for everyone else, it was awesome meeting you guys. We're planning next year already, want to stay for a whole week next time. Can't wait!!

Btw, I just found out that my dad has actually done that 550 pass into ouray in the winter, before the road was widened, with a full load on his semi. Ya, I feel like a pussy for just doing it in a bike now!

It's lots o fun in winter.  (though never done it in a semi)

It gets dark fast after Silverton closes - adding to the fun!

Hey all, I got back home Monday night (actually Tuesday morning @12:30am) after leaving Monday @ 5:30am from Ouray. I was watching out for bears every second I was loading the Jeep. Freakin crazy about Ms. Munson. She's going to be as famous now as the canibal guy in Lake City back a coupla centuries ago! Ha Ha...what a wild and crazy time it was. I am very glad I got to meet as many as I could after lurking and talking to most of you throughout the year in preperation for this. I was really wanting to bring one of my Ducs but things didn't go as planned and turned out way better than expected all the same.

As others have said already planning on next year's event. I too will have a 4x4 vehicle in tow. I did think that $17 for a burger was more like L. A. than I'd like to have had but the ambience was worth it.  [roll]

We do need to all get together again soon so we can stay in touch with other Ducatisti. It really is nice weather for riding around late November here in Texas...hint hint...:)

Great photos and thanks for posting them!!  Really makes me miss visiting that part of CO, as there really isn't another place like Ouray and the surrounding area.  Looked like a pretty healthy turnout too, so good on you all for making the trek and keeping the tradition alive.  I've been talking with a few folks here about making the trip next year, so we'll see what happens.
