Title: My new-to-me S4R with pics. (more pics 2/24/09)
Post by: needtorque on February 21, 2009, 03:52:14 PM
Some pics as I received it.  There is much work to be done; vented clutch cover and blue pressure plate, tail chop, different signals, clip-ons, drop the headlight and gauges, take off the flyscreen, change the rear sprocket as some of the teeth are barely an 1/8 inch, oil change, check belts for myself to see if they are the originals (if I can tell), a good bath, and more I dont remember im sure.  Left at 5 AM this morning and got back at 5:30 PM.  Bike was in St. Johns, FL just south of Jacksonville and I live in Spartanburg, SC.

Love your bike.  That blue and with the matching frame is my favorite.  I put 17,000 on one just like it. Great bike.

I work in Clemson and live off Hwy 28 in Walhalla.  A bunch of us have an annual ride in camp out in June - you should come up.  It's literally at the foot of the mountain off 28  and gateway to the best roads anywhere.  I'll drop you a line as we get close.  It's always a good time.

You are gonna love your bike. I guarantee. [thumbsup]

Thank you both im very happy and very tired.  LA definitely drop me a line.  Semester will be over by then and I want to do some hella riding this summer. (have been without a monster for almost 3 years.)  Hopefully I will have all the bits and pieces I want by then.

Congrats..you got the best pipes too!!

How you like that SIL sound?!

[thumbsup]

I took the red stickers and the "r" off of the end of "Sil Motor".  Looks a lot better since the red stuck out too much IMO.

Agreed.  I'd like to see it with dark grey rims to match that CF belt cover and the other CF bits I'm sure he'll add.

Thanks all.  IZ, I like the sticker idea the red does clash with the rest of the bike.  The sils sound great at low rpm.  Have not opened it up yet since I only got home last night and I still have to change that rear sprocket out, I really dont trust it.  I am still trying to figure out the best way to go with the color combination because of the blue and white primary but all the CF bits are dark grey.

The 1st S4R I ever saw was in 2003 on the showroom floor and it was blue and white.  I told the dealer I would have one one day.  One day finally got here.

congrats needtorque looks like you've got yourself a really nice bike, keep us up to speed with your mods. [clap]

Oh yeah..they sound great when you let off the throttle!!  I'm sure they are 105 dB?!   [evil]

The stickers peel off easily just using your fingernail.

How about powdercoating that shock blue to match too?!

sweet ride, powdercoating the swingarm might look nice against the white wheels.  just a suggestion, the bike looks great.

My wife will be the stopping factor for how far the mods go but I have big plans.  Her previous experience with me and modding monsters has not been a good one. ( I tend to go overboard.)  I am trying to go purely cosmetic on this one though.  The power is more than enough so no need for any mods there this time.

Nice, I just got one too on thursday, damn this thing is fast, a huuge jump from my s2r.  How do you like it?  Here's a pic of mine.  It is an 06, got it with 1 mile on it.  I miss the arrows on my s2r though, how do your pipes sound?

Much as I love my S4Rs, I must admit that your S4R is - in my eyes - the nicest looking Monster Ducati ever built.   Those mirrors - are those stock, Ducati performance, or something else?   I really like them, and I'm tired of my Rizoma Reverse Retros....

Tim

I don't know the brand mirrors I have not looked for the name yet but I think they are DP teardrops.  If you want them I will be selling them for some bar ends and I will also be selling the maguire bars as I want clip-ons.  Once I find out what everything is worth I will post cheaper than that prices.

Nice, I love it.  Have not put any real miles on it yet as I was unaware just how bad the rear sprocket was until I picked it up so now I have to replace it before I will trust riding it.  Pipes sound good at idle and low rpm though.

Got the tail chopped after class today.  Also put on the new seat and started changing out the rear sprocket.  Changed the clutch cover and pressure plate as well.  Will post updated pics later.

By the way if anyone is interested I am going to sell/or trade the full sils on here for an exbox system.  I dont think the sils will be very good with the wife on the back.  They are too close to her ears and to her leg.  I think the x-box will be better for 2 up.

Unless your wife is 5'2" and weighs 100lbs, you will not like riding two-up on a Monster.  Well, at least I don't.  YMMV

Actually. she is 5'8" and 135 but we rode 2 up on my m750 and it was no problem so I think we will be ok unless the ergos on the s4r are that much different.  Rode 400 miles in a day with her on the back.

OK pics of whaty I have done so far.  Only had about 2 hours to work on it so far because of school but looking better already. 2 problems I have so far.  1) I really dont like how far the sils stick out past the tail job; definitely makes me want the ebox now.  2) Why the hell is the dam rear suspension link so goddam tight.  I got the lock nut loose no problem but the corrosion on the threads is so bad I dam near stripped the hexes on the adjuster rod trying to raise the rear.  I had to give up on it for now.  Will probably end up pulled the rod out to break it loose and clean the threads.  It is currently set at almost the lowest ride height and I cant stand it.  Need to raise it about 1.5-2 inches.

New clutch cover/pressure plate, seat, tail chop.

Ditch the rear/passenger pegs, the flyscreen, and replace the mirrors with some Rizoma's or bar end mirrors.  I love my reverse retro Rizoma's.

Already got the bar end mirrors on the way and sold the existing mirrors, will ditch the flyscreen when I get my clip-ons and lower the headlight and gauges (will do all this at once), can't lose the passenger pegs cause wifey will be pissed she likes to ride too.

Also wanna swap the exhaust for quat-d.  I love the look of the empty backspace and also I need to move the noise/heat away from wifey.

MOTHER OF ALL THINGS WONDERFUL!!!!

Just went for a quick ride to the gas station to fill it up.  First ride on the road since I got it.  Could not go far b/c of threatening clouds but holy shit.  So much more power than the old 750 and I did not get past 1/4 throttle.  Currently geared at 15/40 b/c that was the only rear sprocket spare I had (will go to 15/44 soon as get get the new one) and it still pulls like a freight train.

Sounds incredible now with the open clutch and those Sils........ ahh those Sils, such sweet music.

Wonder of all wonders it is supposed to be thunderstorms all weekend here.  I am so surprised [roll]

Yes, I felt like it was a very good deal.  I think the current market is forcing people to sell at lower prices.  It really is a good time to buy a motorcycle if you can afford it.

Apparently not lol.  He gave me a box of stuff which had a DP vented clutch cover and blue pressure plate in it.  Along with all the stock crap.  Also included the DP teardrop mirrors.  Wish he had told me about the damper I may have paid him a bit extra for that.  Ohh well.
