[cheeky] Lisa, are you riding the 999 or Guzi? Game-time decision; prolly the Guzzi so I can get a better feel for the handling on roads other than city. What about you? Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: Cher on February 24, 2009, 05:31:57 AM Steve, I followed the link in your previous post but it goes to a neighborhood in Highland Village instead of the Starbucks. Here's a Mapsco link for the 2201 Justin Road Starbucks: http://www.mapquest.com/maps?name=Starbucks&city=Flower+Mound&state=TX&address=2201+Justin+Rd+%23+311&zipcode=75028&country=US&latitude=33.072491&longitude=-97.061998&geocode=ADDRESS&id=8965265 (http://www.mapquest.com/maps?name=Starbucks&city=Flower+Mound&state=TX&address=2201+Justin+Rd+%23+311&zipcode=75028&country=US&latitude=33.072491&longitude=-97.061998&geocode=ADDRESS&id=8965265) Interestingly, this map puts the Starbucks in the exact middle of the intersection of Justin Road and Morris [bang] It's actually in the southwest quadrant of this intersection [laugh] Looking forward to the ride on Monday! Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: fastwin on February 24, 2009, 06:27:32 AM I'm probably out.
Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: sdlrodeo on February 24, 2009, 06:48:24 AM It should go without saying, but I'll say it anyway.
If you can't keep up, you'll be left behind! I kid. Let's plan on the faster group waiting at the next turn as usual. There is a gas station infront of the Tom Thumb (same parking lot as Starbucks). Planning on heading up to the Illinois bend area via 407, 2264, B81, 730, 455, 677 all the way to OK. Great bridge for Photos and it is very long, flat and straight so do with it what you will. Lunch in Forrestburg or Meunster either on the way or way back. If we do Meunster, we can come back down via 373 thru Meunster to 922 back to Rosston and hit 362 (palmer st) ( If it is gravel, we'll just go back to Forrestburg) back to 455 and head east to Slidell and check out ECR then south on 2662, east on 2449 and 156 south back to Justin. Steve Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: sdlrodeo on February 24, 2009, 06:52:12 AM I'm probably out. Is it because of the guzzi and cruiser? Heh heh. Steve Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: sdlrodeo on February 28, 2009, 06:29:10 PM If it is as chilly as it was today and I don't borrow my buddy's heated gear, I may have to postpone the ride. My heated grips AND throw-away-pocket-handwarmers that were stuck in the top of my ski gloves didn't really keep my thumbs warm. Swear they felt like somebody hit them with a spud hammer when I got to Stuart's this morning. It said 35F when I left the house.
Steve Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: Cher on March 01, 2009, 07:04:44 AM I agree - this stuff should be fun, not a life-threatening test of endurance [laugh] Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: muskrat on March 01, 2009, 08:09:01 AM how cold is too cold? maybe push back to 1100 start time? wont climb out of the 40's until about that time.
Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: sdlrodeo on March 01, 2009, 06:22:42 PM I'd suggest everyone interested either give me a call at 1000 (972) 567-6375 or check the board at that time.
According to weather.com it is suposed to be 38F at 0900, 43F at 1000, 48F at 1100, 53F at noon, 57F at 1300, 59F at 1400, and 61F at 1500. I'm game with 48F at 1100 to meet at Starbucks. Rolling by 1130? Check or call at 1000. Steve Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: Duc L'Smart on March 01, 2009, 07:43:08 PM busy at work tomorrow, & toooo damn cold. I vote reschedule ;D
Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: Cher on March 01, 2009, 08:19:13 PM Yeah, I'm fairly sure I'd end up having to bail early if we push the start time back too far. May be just a bit chilly if not tho... I'll check back in the a.m. and see wassup ;D Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: muskrat on March 01, 2009, 09:12:12 PM if we blast off at 11 I'm still in. However, I will have to meet you guys on the road as I'm in Frisco and cut across 455.
Will check in the am. Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: sdlrodeo on March 02, 2009, 06:41:18 AM From frisco, you could just take 380 over to Decatur no?
Ok, We'll meet at 1030 and roll by 1100. Check here or call me 972-567-6375 at 0945. Who's in? Steve Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: Duc L'Smart on March 02, 2009, 06:43:09 AM I'm in... the Hot Tub ;D

Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: sdlrodeo on March 02, 2009, 02:09:34 PM I'm back safe and sound as a pound baby, yeah!
Had a great time! Little chilly at first, but then I got to test out the electric liner. Not chilly at all after that. Just my thumbs. Amazing what keeping your core warm will do for your piggies. Seriously. Got a good pic after going as fast as I ever have gone on the taovaya bridge. Numbers don't matter, at least not in written form. That would be incrimination. Heh Heh. Steve Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: Cher on March 02, 2009, 02:19:35 PM Excellent day to be on the bike! Great work, Steve, on leading the way. Had a blast [thumbsup] The Muenster Run now has a run for its money - maybe instead of Doc's being the "end of the day" it should be the halfway rest stop before the REAL roads begin [evil] Report and pix at eleven on your local DFM affiliate stations... If you're familiar with The Muenster Run ;D this section of road is basically 15 miles northwest from Muenster. The actual road is FM 677 North out of Saint Jo (Ahh yes, the lovely little community of St. Jo. Got a ticket there once for 36 in a 30...but that's a totally different crock of fish that can wait for another day). FM 677 is kind of funny in that you cruise north out of town through the city square, amble along a quaint tree-lined neighborhood at a quaint 30mph (thank you very much), then the road seems to just fall away onto this panoramic canyon vista; chalk white limestone bluff on your left, robust armaco and wide-open nothing on your right, it's Three Sisters: Part II :o Eventually, 677 flattens out into a big valley full of farms and fields on the border of Texas and Oklahoma. Which brings us to the Really, Really Long Road. Now I don't know about you but any road that is long enough to land a space shuttle is cool in my book: (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/Taovaya-Bridge-2.jpg) View from the landing gear of Discovery It was only after our second (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/TaovayaBridgeMar09-1.jpg) Taovaya Bridge: Guzzi vs. Ducati - AGAIN... 916cc vs. Not! Hey, that ST4s DOES have a headlight [bang] (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/GuzzionTaovayaBridgeMar09-1-1.jpg) Red River from the Taovaya Bridge Overall it was a great ride route (hats off to sdlrodeo!) – one that could easily be incorporated into the next Muenster Run. With this northwesterly addition, you're definitely gonna need to eat your Wheaties. I'm going to ride it again soon just to get a better handle on total miles and time involved but at this point I'd have to guess it would be a leave at 9am, return to D/FW by 5 or 6 kind of day. Doc's would still be on the slate as a good mid-day lunch break but then there's another hour at least north of there just to get to the Taovaya Bridge. Ahh, good times for sure. So watch this space – an April Mega Muenster Marathon Ride will be coming soon to a Ducati near you [evil] Lisa Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: caffeinejunkee on March 03, 2009, 03:15:22 PM Looks like an awesome route and a good time had... [thumbsup] [moto]
Thanks for sharing the experience and the pics. It's always cool to read your reviews Lisa. Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Ahh, good times for sure. So watch this space – an April Mega Muenster Marathon Ride will be coming soon to a Ducati near you [evil] Lisa Lisa, thanks for the kind words, but you forgot about the BURGERS!! We ate at the forestburg country store. They have a grill in the back that makes fresh burger patties. Great stuff! I had an awesome time. Lisa is no slouch that is for sure. There was no missing her and that GIANT Guzzi headlight The road was fairly greasy feeling. Don't know if it was the low temps or oil trucks (didn't see any). I set my trip Odo at Argyle (407 where it makes a turn by the light/gas station before heading west to 35w) or so and when I got back it read 205 miles traveled. Left at 1100 on the nose after Starbucks and fuel. Pulled into my drive at 1545 (1/2hr lunch). Oh, and sorry for the missed turns on the way home (455 from Forestburg to 35S). I think they helped us get back faster though. Until next time... Steve [/quote] Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: Cher on March 04, 2009, 05:22:28 AM Hey Steve, no worries on the missed turn - did work out better time-wise. That country store in Forrestburg has a chequered past with this group. I think I'm probably not the only one to not know about their grill. But we can tell you about their DIESEL that comes out of an "Unleaded" gas pump out back. Actually 8 or 9 of us can tell you all about that [cheeky] Looked like a train of mosquito foggers from there all the way into Fort Worth... Sometimes, it's just hard to be cool. All I can say is I ended up with a whole new respect for the engineers at Ducati that day; they planned for every contingency... Even running diesel. [moto] Title: Re: MONDAY ride March 2 !! Post by: sdlrodeo on March 05, 2009, 03:15:51 AM Diesel? Really? 9 of you?
I would guess their tanks are not the most up to date with the EPA. Or somebody just had a total brain fart when the tanks were being filled. I didn't even know they had a gas pump. Good thing eh? Steve |
