Texas Hill Country Monsters lost a dear friend yesterday afternoon.
RipTearShred, Rich Carroll, an avid Ducatisti and dry clutch fanatic, was declared dead on arrival after being LifeFlighted from the 3 Sisters (Hill Country, Texas) to San Antonio Hospital.
Riding alone (which was the norm for Rich) he was found lying in the middle of the road by a passing motorist. No evidence of an animal collision, and apparantly his helmet was unscathed, but it is most probable he passed due to internal injuries.
Not much is known @ this time, but anything else to come will be posted on the THCM board...........
For his birthday, he recieved a not yet taken trip to Italy to tour on Ducati...knowing Rich, that would be a 1098s, I'm sure he's there now, acheiving perfect traction, suspension compliance and throttle response....and laughing at all of us down here struggling with the same......
God Speed, Rich Carroll...........

I was gonna go a couple of weeks ago. I had two different people, both very experienced riders tell me not to go. I decided to go anyways but only made it halfway there before I noticed my bike was puking oil from under the belt cover. Not just a little leak, but oil down the right side of the bike and on the back tire. So I turned around and came home. Removed the belt covers and cleaned the bike up. I have since put over two hundred miles on her trying to pinpoint the leak before fixing anything and haven't seen a drop of oil. I think the bike was telling me to stay away from the sisters also. As I said before, this is sad news and Rich had many friends. Rip
Jon
crap :(
So sad.

OH Shit!!!!!!
I am just reading this - no make the beast with two backsing way!!!!
I cant believe it...

make the beast with two backs this sucks so bad... I knew Rich from the Austin crowd... saw him, shit... just a week or two ago, was joking w/ him as usual.
Rich was a great guy (make the beast with two backsing past tense is weird) and this is a real loss >:(
Condolences to his friends and family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Rich....Hate to here of a another DMFer and Texan going down :'(
so, has it been determined exactly, yet, what caused the accident and loss of life?
[beer] to Rich.
God Speed.

too early for that yet. I heard that the authorities will investigate it and try to recreate the accident but as of now there were no witnesses and the bike had no apparent collision damage. We think he most likely tried to avoid something, maybe a deer in the road or whatever, and lost control. Once he got thrown off he must have impacted the ground or something else hard enough to cause the fatal internal injuries.
It really sucks not knowing. To be honest it has shaken me up quite a bit. Rich was a more experienced rider than me, I had ridden with him several times and knew him to be safety-conscious and always with full gear but yet he went out for a ride one day and just died.

That's pretty much my worst nightmare. Do it all right, yet still don't make it home, and nobody knows why. It prompts reflection on why we do what we do.
Just today I learned that a guy from my highschool class ('85) died in a hockey game this week. One of two deaths there in a single day. Shoot, score, collapse. From what I read here it sounds possible that Rich's death could have been unrelated to his ride. No less tragic for sure. I hope the cause can be determined. Godspeed.

The wife and I are planning on riding in that area this weekend. I'm not telling her about what happened, she'll just be too freaked. I'll be thinking about it a bit for sure. the whole thing just stinks.
DMF, the love pouring in has been unbelievable.......thank you one and thank you all.....Cath and the families had a true "Celebration of Rich's life" last night here in town.....the families are blown away by the caring of you all....each having read the blogs here...
the families were not motorcyclists....they knew he loved his Ducati and his riding friends with all his heart, this board was where it all started for him. I believe after last night they understood just what the DMF/Motorcyling community stands for....and for that we can all be very proud indeed. [thumbsup]

if it was me in your shoes, I'd totally try to erase this incident and any other relative negative energy/thoughts prior to the ride.. My $0.02

easier said than done if one knew and rode with him :(
i had held my comments, not knowing Rich, but wanted to say that i am very proud to be part of this community.
It is sad when any rider goes down for the last time, but the reflection and outpouring here let's him live on in a different way.
I have a house in San Antonio and may end up in the area one day again. I hope i get to meet so many of you who were touched by this man's life.
Rest in Peace and may God let him ride a Ducati on Heaven's track.

think about what you made you like him, and carry it with you as a guardian angel.
I'm sure he'd wish you well as you ride, so accept his generosity and remind you how wonderful life is.
