Title: Not all Hds are made in USA.
Post by: jerryz on February 25, 2009, 07:53:53 AM
Yes its true 95%+ of Harley davidsons are made and assembled in The USA ..Ok parts are sourced from all over the world , Germany(Vrod Engines) china , Taiwan , Italy etc but where can you you can buy HDs that do not have made in USA stickers on them ?

I know the answer... no its not Thailand yet ..thats on the cards to gain ASEAN benefits ..but perhaps the credit crunch will delay it again.

OK guys guess ..I will tell the answer soon.

Are they going to do knock down kits built in China like the automakers do? I think Jeep and a few others basically send the parts over and assemble the products at plants in China, thus giving it a "built in China" sticker

Brazil or Mexico would be my guess.  Easier to swallow than an Asian HD.

If this is a guessing game, I would guess Italy. because, technically, Cagiva is a HD now.

Actually somone guessed right already its Brazil.

HDs on sale in Brazil and some neighbouring countries have MADE IN BRAZIL on them !

its an assembly deal to get round customs and taxes .

Similar thing has been mooted for Thailand for a year or so as here in Asia HDs get taxe 200% on import and sell at $30,000 + for standard models .
If assembled here the price would fall by 30-50%. Kawasaki have recently done it and are cleaning up on sales as their bikes a half the oppostions price.Even I am tempted.
