Title: Something to keep me from going crazy!!!!
Post by: monsterbrew on February 26, 2009, 10:07:57 AM
So check this out peepz!  WOuldnt it be hella cool if somebody in the Springz did this.   We go a shop up here that is putting on service seminars throughout the winter.  You even get to do valve jobs on a bike that's not yours (thank goodness) to become familliar with how its done!!!!  I need something like this to get my Duc fire inside lit again, as I've been thinkin about sellin her.  Its all the fault of the F 800 GS what an evil temptress that bike is!!!!!  But anyway check out this site to see whats going on in this frozen wasteland! maybe it will spark someone there to do such a thing, maybe not the whole valve job bit, but maybe the more basic stuff that all riders should know!!!

Neat deal MB,  should be helpful for anyone, might help the public "fear factor" of ducati maintenance if nothing else. I doubt many shops will embrace this concept, might cost them some service business, the thought of more Ducati buyers being unafraid of service costs could offset the service dept. losses would be an interesting study. I can see education about Ducati service as only a positive thing, that's just My  opinion. nice to hear from ya' .... [drink]

Once I've got, i dunno, a few chairs and such at my house, I wouldn't be opposed to doing a BS session on doing valve maintenance on the ducati desmoduo mill.  I guess I am only 2 thousand miles away from my next maintenance at this point.  Or there, if I'm going by ducati standards.  We'd just need to make sure that CSDucati carries saleable shims so that if any need replacing, it can be done same day.  After all, I imagine anyone who comes for that would wanna see start to finish.

Is this seriously something people here would be interested in?  It wouldn't be free in this case.  I'd expect, if we had a maintenance day people would need to pay...  With beer...  Good beer...  Very good beer!

BEER!!!

Hey Smokescreen, WannaDucBad (Anson, my son) found out that he can get the shim set from PJ's in Albuquerque for $300.  I just passed 15000 and he is going to do the routine service for that mileage, but probably down there unless I can talk him into a road trip.  You've actually done your valves before, right?  It would be great to do a Monster garage session and knock out some maintenance with some moral support.

As I said, I'm a little ways from needing one myself, but if one of yours gets a shim set and wants to learn, I can certainly oblige.  I've done my S2R1K, and I've done numerous on the M900 I used to be charged with caring for.  You'd need to get other things too, like maintenance cover seals, and oil filter, oil, air filter, etc...  Easy stuff though.  In fact, my S2R is the harder one for me because of how they mounted the battery.  Hopefully they didn't use the same design on yours....

But yeah, I'm down.
