Title: Can you count the ways SPEED f'd up?
Post by: mitt on March 01, 2009, 02:27:06 PM
So, I just saw race 1.

In a pre-recorded race, why did speed put a commercial block in at the first 2 lead changes?

Also, this is Hanspree, not Speed, but they used the old ducati circle as a logo next to the name the entire race instead of the new ghey badge - I loved that.

What a race though  [thumbsup]

I'd say the incredible finish made up for the coverage.

I don't know but the quality didn't seem very good, and the camera angles weren't as good as the moto gp coverage(from gp.com)

I feel like writting a letter to each of the advertisers who bought airtime during the race and letting them know that because of the way Speed continues to neglect race fans, I will be downloading the races online and therefore not watching any of their advertising.

I thought that too, very grainy image this time.  I figured it was the bar's cable package.

As usual, far too many commercials on SpeedTV. I think they edit the race and include as many sponsor commercials so they dont interrupt NASCAR [puke] races......

I think its time to find my race coverage somewhere else.....

Maybe open a bar/lounge and show all the races, That'd be nice

I've always just watched on Speed or in a bar, but this time I had success watching it online at worldsbk.com.  I went through a proxy server so that it didn't know I was in the US (in which case it tells you you're not authorized to watch).  I managed to watch Race 1 and Race 2 live.  And then watched 'em again last night.  So it worked both live and delayed.   [thumbsup]

I would like to get the details on this so that our local riding club can watch the WSBK races live.  I love RU, but I would like to host group events and show the races without a delay.  I have tried to work deals with several bar owners in the area and none of the satellite or cable broadcasters offer Eurosport or BBC Sports (MotoGP coverage).

Thanks guys

haven't used the wsbk site to watch a race.. will the player detach etc?  cuz if you can't stream the image from your computer to to an HD tv, using a proxy server (try google...) means that you'll have to watch it on the computer.

which is fine n' all, but probably not ideal for a group.

Ok, here's what I did, based on instructions from another website.  I have no idea what kind of interwebz security issues are involved in this, so I was careful to stay away from any other sites while going through the proxy server.  If any of you internet folks know a better way or a way of doing this more securely, please chime in.  I'd really love to know.  I was using IE.  I couldn't figure it out with Firefox.

1)  Get an ip address and port for a proxy server outside the US.  I used http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html.
2)  Cut and pasted an address and port from somewhere other than US.
3)  Open up IE.
4)  Got to Tools>Internet Options>Connections TAB>Lan Settings.
5)  Check the proxy server button.
6)  Enter in the IP address and port number for the proxy server
7)  Click OK.
8)  Go to WorldSBK.com & click on the race video.  Be careful to avoid spoilers on the home page.  If it doesn't WSBK home page doesn't load, start over.
9)  If it's not working, it'll be insanely slow to load.  Go back to Step 1 and get a new IP and port and try again.
10)  If it works, the race plays in a player with its own pop-up screen.
11)  After the race, unclick the proxy server button in Step 5.

Re HDTV, we managed to hook it up to the TV.  Rather than feed the computer screen directly to the TV, we made the computer think the computer screen was the monitor on the left and the TV was a second monitor on the right.  Then we dragged the video all the way to the right (where the second monitor was supposed to be) and enlarged it.  Worked like a charm.   [thumbsup]  I don't have the exact instructions.

Going to a long commercial  break during the last three laps was pretty irritating.

How much dinero ...

Watching on the race on worldsbk web site is FREE. You just can't get directly to it in the US due to Speed TV contracts or whatnot.  I'm currently outside the US and have to say it was awesome to watch the races live via the worldsbk website. I had no issues whatsoever and is way better than Speed coverage. Did I mention..LIVE.
