good morning
so I pulled my hamstring yesterday at soccer. iced it when I got home, kept it elevated, wrapped it with an ace bandage, took 2 ibuprofen.
So this morning I can barely move. Have it wrapped again and an ice pack. I'm going to alternate with a heatpack pretty much all day.
Anyone 'in the know' that can give me more pointers to recuperate this? I don't want to go to the doctor to pay my $10 copay for him to tell me to keep doing what I'm doing.
Thanks in advance.
Andy
its commong to be stiff the morning after. use the rice method, get a deep tissue massage becasue the muslces around the hamstring are working over time to comp. dont veg on it all day. stretch through the pain slowly and evenly.
Not a big fan of ibuprofen, its not strong enough for me, I like naproxen much more and i basically live off that stuff.
Thats how i was told by the doc to treat the minor stuff.
been a soccer coach for close to 10yrs. Gotten many a player thru this. Just think RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). I'd add heat to that. I usually say 5-8min each, with a 5-8min break. Make sure you have a towel or something covering you while icing. Got my daughter thru a really bad sprain this way last fall, only down 4 weeks instead of the 6-8 initially called for.
get some Alieve, the gel caps. They last 8hrs, it's basically over the counter Naproxin Sodium. Works wonders for reducing swelling...
+1 on massage (in addition to RICE)
+1 on the deep-tissue massage. Also, light, light stretching; several times a day.
rest and light stretching and Ibuprofen.
