Post by: jerryz on March 03, 2009, 01:34:49 AM
Trying to remove S4 swinginarm, the circlips are off  and the 8mm lock bolts are removed but it will not budge even with massive hammer blows and heat!!!!!   is there a puller for this job?

The special tool is a suitable drift and a hammer.  Since it doesn't want to budge, use something softer than steel, like a brass drift to avoid mushrooming the shaft.  They can be a pregnant dog.

I had a similar issue a couple months ago

They key for me was to remove the "clamps" pictured all the way out of the swingarm.

To remove the top one I made a puller with a socket and a longer bolt and washer and pulled it out

The lower one I removed by hammering on a drift I made by bending an old screwdriver into a right angle.

I also made a drift from aluminum that fit inside the ID of the swingarm and was slightly smaller than the OD but to be honest after removed the clamps it popped right out without issue.

Good Luck!
