Hello,
I recently noticed that there was a slight fogging in my oil sight window. The bike has been mostly sitting for the winter so I thought it might have just been some moisture in the window (maybe in between two panes of glass or whatever it is), but then I realized that the oil coming up wipes it away.
Now, the "fog" is a little more viscous and almost looks like a cream or something.
I rode for maybe an hour with the bike a little over filled with oil. Not seriously overfilled, but a little.
Does anyone know what this may be? I have no idea, and am a little concerned.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. I am looking for some bar end round mirrors. CRG style but less expensive. (I know its the wrong place, but I posted in the right one as well)
That was normal for my 620 every winter. I would ride it for an hour or so to let the condensation burn off, then let the bike sit till I could change the oil (3-4 hours)
How overfilled are you talking about, I would worry about that more. If its not to bad, warm her up and change the oil.
As for your bar end mirrors, I got mine at a bike shop for 8 bucks a set.
I believe someone had posted in the tute section that if you go for a good ride, when you get home, unscrew the oil filler cap and the hot oil will evaporate any moisture in the crankcase. Just dont forget to put the filler cap back on before starting up the bike!

Just the water in the oil condensating on the glass.
No problemo, just normal on yer bike.

RE: Mirrors - check ebay. There's a good number of CRG knock-offs on there. IF you want the folding 'lane splitter' style - I *think* you might have to pony up for the real deal.
I'm going to chime in here, even though I'm not a mechanic or a Ducati expert in any way. I'm on my first Ducati, a 696. As soon as it started getting cold I've had this milky film on my site glass. No amount of riding makes this go away. I could ride for 15 minutes or 3 hours, as soon as I stopped it was back (did the "unscrew the filler cap" made no difference). I had the oil cooler installed recently and had the oil changed at the same time. You guessed it, as soon as I got home from the dealer, there it was again. Maybe this is a function of the crank case breather valve not doing it's job?
Bottom line; I've tried most of the fixes for this, nothing has worked. So I'm with the crowd that says it's normal. Whether it's a good or bad sign, I couldn't say.

nothing to worry about... now if you had a liquid cooled monster there would be more reason to be apprehensive if it didnt seem to go away.
It is simply a matter of the oil not getting hot enough. Moisture condenses and mixes with the oil on the cold surface of the sight glass, creating what looks like mayonnaise on the sight glass. Unscrewing the oil cap allows some of the warm water vapor to escape, reducing the effect. As said before, no need for concern.
During the winter I have to do this every other ride. Get the oil hot, when I stop unscrew the cap, and wipe out the excess moisture. It will clear the milky sight glass right up. The crankcase breather is doing its job, but the oil cap is a high point, as well, and tends to collect moisture during the heat cycle only to deposit it again when the temp cools down.

i have a 696 rode it hard for 45 min unscrew the filler cap trick worked for me went back home all was [thumbsup]
First of all thanks everybody for the info. Unfortunately as I live in the NW, it has been raining for the past couple days and I haven't been able to try to release the water. Just have to wait for a sunny (more importantly dry) day.

ca-cycleworks sells a k&n filter to replace the stock breather box. I have this on my race bike and have never had the milkywhite sightglass problem since. However the bike runs a hella lot hotter racing than it ever did on the street [bacon]

Still haven't been able to ride, too much water snow in the mountains to snowboard, and too much rain in the low lands to motorcycle.

may want to pop out the mirrors from the backing when you get them, and tighten down the screws that hold the backing on the little arm. mine came loose after a ride or two and just about fell out.
