I've only done one of them. Christchurch to Queenstown by bus in Feb of 2000. As the article says, those lakes are shockingly blue, almost turquoise. Passing one of them our bus got buzzed by a glider coming in for a landing. Since then I have wanted a ride on a Glider. Why didn't I travel by motorcycle? because I learned to ride in 2007. And it's a bit of a drive from central Wisconsin. ;)
makes me feel good knowing i have done 2 of them ;D
i've only driven one on their list....
i'd have to say that the most white knuckle driving i've done was in ireland
through beautiful hills and coastline cliffs, hard to keep your eyes on the road...
I might be biased, but I don't think the GOR is the best in Australia. Scenery is okay, but the drive... There's at least 10 other things I'd do above the GoR.
Makes me question the rest of the list :).
Too bad they didn't get to see the Dragon.

the worlds greatest drive is when...
its not these places,, its the drive,, its you and the machine
moving as one, over the open road.
I have done about 2/3 of the Lima, Peru to Santiago, Chile and it's amazing!! I drove it instead of riding a bike but hope to ride it one day. The Atacama desert (Chile) is an magical place. They ran part of the new Dakar there this year and it was a great success. They are doing some stages there next year. Obviously they do not run on pavement, but the Chilean Panamericana is a great road and at some points gets very twisty. The road is in great shape because Chile is a very developed country with great infrastructure. Do it if you get a chance. The Chilean part is very safe, even safer than traveling in the US. I don't know about the Peru side of things but I know Peru is not as safe a country in general.
