I went to one of the original old school (when old school was state-of-the-art)  AHRA championship drags at Famoso a long time ago.  I was 14 at the time and  it was a great show with Connie Kalita, Don Garlits and lots more.  I don't remember that Don Prudhomme was there.  It was before his funny car days and he drove a front engined "rail".  His record at one time was 243 wins against 7 losses.  Completely unbelievable.

One of my  memories is of a bunch of Hells Angels camped in a nearby field barbecuing a coyote over a bonfire.

I wonder if there is an award for oldest forum member?  Dunno if I'd win but I'm probably in the running!

I watched the " Hemi Under Glass " Barracuda burn rubber all the way through the traps at National Trails Raceway , Kirkersville, Ohio.

I think it was running against USA #1 .     Dolph     :)

I grew up in northern Florida and we would go to Gainsville for the drag races in the mid 70's.  You could sit in the car!

Oh the days of spindle-mounted Mag front-runners, big-blocks on alky, 4-speeds, and altered wheelbases...

Yeah...I too need a cig.  I *did* just ....um.... yeah.
