Title: New Bike
Post by: giannig on March 06, 2009, 11:40:09 PM
Hi all,

Long time no speak. Well the time has come for me to buy a new (2nd hand) bike and I finally decided on a 999s - see below.

I considered an 848 but in the end I liked the dry clutch and the fact the look is quite different - not many on the road.

She's a 2006 model with 7000klm's and really nice to ride.

Hope to see some of you at future track days at Eastern Creek.

That's lovely, I've always been a fan of the 999/749 shape.
I know it was the much un-loved evolution of the 916/748

But I liked it, neat looking unit, are you kitting it out with track glass or keeping it in street clothes.
Look forward to your reports and feelings of ownership.

cheers
Matty...

Thanks Matty.

Won't be kitting it out in race glass. I have to ride it to the track and don't have room to store the extra parts.

I'll just have to try not to push it over the edge.

Yep. The Monster will be my touring bike. I originally bought the Monster as an all-rounder. Have used it on everything from Turismo to track days at Eastern Creek. I still believe they are the best all-round bike unless you can have a dedicated sports bike and a tourer.

My next bike will be a dedicated tourer like the Strada Aperta. This will replace the Monster.

Cheers Dock,

I must say, at that last track day I realised most of our garage was taken up by 848/1098's obviously apart from your animal, so it's nice to have something different there. I do love the 848/1098 shape but they are everywhere.

Don't take any credit away from the 999 its a serious machine and it is a much better handling bike out of the box than the 1098 will ever be with out spending big $ on it and like i have proved many times on the monster power isn't every thing. The 999s is a special machine , Just look what it has done in the superbikes the 999 was up there with the best.

Hey Gianni very envious of your new beast.... I have always had a soft spot for the 999 (same engine as my Monster all be it de-tuned a bit).  [bow_down]

And totally agree re being different to all the 848s / 1098s......  [thumbsup]

Look forward to seeing you on the track for some action pics..........   [moto]

and the 749s is just as nice....it's the white panels on the rear that really make it!

Bike magazine had an article on how much of a bargain the 999s is, superbike for not much more than a monster

the redesign in 2005 is the point where the 2nd generation gets even better. (although I like the grey trellis of Gen 1 as well!)

Nice!

It's got more than enough HP for me (143, I believe). Took it for a nice ride up Mt White this morning, it's so sweet. Then I got on the Monster straight after and it was a weird feeling. The Monster felt like a motard in comparison. Funnily I enjoyed the Monster even more than usual  [roll]

The bike ended up costing me what I would have paid for a 2nd hand 848, plus I get the dry clutch and all the Ohlins bling. All in all I am very happy with it.
