Title: tank/hose corrosion
Post by: IZ on March 07, 2009, 02:03:15 PM
I just removed tank/hoses from my '03 620 i.e. and noticed there was a rusty-looking substance corroding one of the L-shaped prongs that plugs into the hose.  I took a paperclip and was able to clear out most of it but I'm not sure if it is all out?

For those of you who did not read my previous post awhile back..the reason I removed the tank is because it has been suspected there is a gas leak in the hinge area.  The tank unfortunately dropped after being propped up for maint.

I was hoping this build up could some how be the cause of the gas leak and after being cleared it would stop but I can see that the corner part of hinge does have an area where gas has been escaping.

Any ideas of what this corrosion could be from?

Thanks

Rust?  From water in the tank?   Pretty common,  and a perfect time to do the POR 15 before you have the hinge brazed.

I'd braze the hinge first so the POR didn't burn...

but that's just me.

To answer your question, that tube is probably the cap area drain. They always show rust because they're often full of water.
