Title: electrical question: update Im a Moron
Post by: JTMOTO on March 07, 2009, 02:15:16 PM
Here is the situation.  My bike is connected to a trickle charger, and a couple of my buddies turned my ignition on so that they could use the headlight to help them work on a car.  I believe they left the key turned on with the headlight going while still on the charger for a couple of hours!!  My one friend thought that it would not harm anything.  Now the bike will not start.  Could this have done any damage to the bike besides draining the battery?

I accidentally yanked the wire to the immobilizer when I was cleaning the bike that same night.  When I replaced the ignition cover with a carbon one from monsterparts I had to secure the immobilizer to it using 3m double stick, and it looks like I yanked it out.  Thanks for the feedback, I'm a little embarrassed.

Probably just a dead battery.  Leave it on the charger for a few hours and see what happens.  If you have no power after that then check the fuses.

i know this sounds stupid, not my intent...
have you checked the kill switch?
removed the key, and then re inserted it?

Is the bike in gear when you hit the starter?

I don't want to think this, but ignition coils don't like that scenario.

Assuming the bike is cranking check spark.

I have power to gauges and lights. Headlight power is strong and the bike has been on Charger for 3 days. It does not turn over at all, no starter, not even a sound..any ideas

Could this be the immobilizer.  Owners manual talks about entering the code.  Could that be it?

Don't get me wrong, friends are friends, but I'd be so pissed off if it were my bike.  >:(

But, I'm guessing you left the keys out for them.  :-\

Is the immobilizer light on or blinking?

No just the engine light when I turn the key

its a fair bet that they burned out the coils  leaving it on like that for so long .
