Title: Aftermarket regulator/rectifier?
Post by: Palooka on March 08, 2009, 04:21:49 PM
My regulator caught fire the other day and I need to replace it. The local dealer tells me they are on back-order and is unsure of a delivery date. While he's chasing that up I thought I'd check out if anyone has used an aftermarket unit? I know Electrosport in the US do one but thought there may be a local option?

Anyone?

I'm also thinking of using a re-locator kit. Why Ducati thought it was a good idea to mount a giant heat-sink in plastic in a position that has no air-flow is beyond me.

Cheers
Palooka

Hi Palooka,
I ordered  an aftermarket one couple of weeks ago for an 03 800 monster through a guy Simon at New Wold Honda  03 8794 0000, $240 the same size and shape as original.
had it to me the next day.  (I don't know him personally).

Thanks for the replies guys. I ordered one from CA Cycleworks  this morning and it's already been picked up for shipping.

$130US including expedited shipping works out about the same as a genuine parts cost and the aftermarket unit is claimed to be better.

Still waiting for a call back from the local dealer on when a genuine one will be available  :P

Cheers
Palooka

if it's the one through gosford motorcycles it's (in my experience) junk. add to that they won't warrant it after only 1000klms and it was fitted by the mechanic they supplied it to, and i'll buy one cheaper, and better quality from chris at cacycleworks thanks.

we fitted quite a lot of them over the years, never had any issues that i was aware of.  visually at least exactly the same part as the std 3 phase reg, we used to sell them for $240 as well from memory.

not sure what they sell in gosford.
